Around 3 years ago, I moved house from one exchange area to another (Pakuranga to Howick). Was with Orcon they moved everything over no problems including my phone number.

Tried to migrate to Vodafone this week, apparently the number I have can't be migrated to them as it belongs to the Pakuranga exchange. Despite the fact that it works fine with Orcon.

Not sure if Orcon have done something with the number, decoupling it from the exchange, whatever they did Vodafone seem incapable of doing. It was a deal breaker and they wouldn't proceed

I'm struggling to make sense of this tbh, has anyone else hit this issue.

I don't want to change my number, how do I move ISPs ?

Thanks

If you move to the Vodafone Red network it's possible but you might be going to a area that Vodafone has not unbundled the exchange,

Check out Vodafone Home phone wireless and then get Naked Broadband, Should work a treat and you keep the same home number and could even save a few $$$

voip vs pot lines voip you can port any number to it and keep even if you move to the south island, and orcon you would be on voip. now you going back to a normal land line, you need a number that is in the exchange.

Thanks for the replies.

It would appear that Vodafone is off the table for me.

Orcon appear unable to get me moved from a llu to a cabinet based connection. I'm heartily sick of them and wanted to leave.

Can someone recommend and ISP that can do this ?

Port the number to 2Talk and then no need to worry which ISP you are with.

Or VFX, which is equally as good (and IMHO better since with a compatible device its plug & play!)
