Hey guys,

I'm looking at signing up to a new ISP. I'm moving out of my current property (Telecom 500GB plan) and going to be staying with a relative for a few months.

Currently, my relative has no internet but has their homeline with Telecom. What I'm wanting to do is sign up to a naked broadband plan so I can be billed for the internet while the current Telecom homeline my relative has stays untouched (and free from any extra billing that would be caused by having an internet connection).

So far, I have whittled it down to Snap vs Maxnet. I'm really keen on Snap but the $150 D/C fee, if I choose to terminate the contract before 12 months, is a huge deterrent. Snap -so I hear- has great service and support.

Maxnet because they have an unlimited plan and I've never really heard anything bad about them and they also wont charge a D/C fee if I terminate the contract inside of 3 months, and they'll only charge a $75 fee if I choose to terminate it after 3 months. Currently, I'm leaning towards Maxnet but was wondering if anyone is on their unlimited plan or any sort of plan they have that could let me in on what their service and support is like.

Thanks guys!

P.S, I've already checked out Orcon and have already been a customer of theirs once before and am not happy with their service and product. I've also checked out Slingshot's unlimited/naked plans and whilst they are priced decently, the support they provide and the product they offer seems to vary greatly in terms of how well they perform.

There will be big cost savings using the current line and it will all be billed seperately.

Telecom have already said they wont bill separately. I suppose I could just stay with Telecom on the 500GB plan I have and just explain to my relative that the extra charge they will be seeing will be mine to pay, but out of courtesy to them I'd rather just keep their phone bill/homeline untouched.

I'm not going to unroot their already established account with Telecom and move them to another provider just so I can save a few dollars on an internet bill.

I agree with this.

As a side note, we've got a clothed (run over existing line) ADSL plan that's $67.85 incl GST.

Early termination charge is $75 incl GST.

Unmetered data on a fair use basis.

For our ADSL/VDSL services, we buy bandwidth from Maxnet/Vocus.

With us we don't touch your established account your relatives have and we bill you directly for internet services.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Love it when that happens :P

Especially when you draft a decent technical reply on a thread and someone just beats you to it.

Yip, we're an ISP based in Tauranga and have a number of Geekzone residential customers on our ADSL and VDSL services (makes good use of capacity lying dormant because the majority of our customers are businesses and use bandwidth during business hours).

They still operate residential services under the Maxnet brand though (as far as I'm aware).

Whoops, sorry overlord-guy.

Looking at Full Flavour Media now. Have to admit, I'm not sure what to think. Your website definitely makes you look competent and well presented but I've never heard of you and am worried about service/support when I may need it if I was to sign up with you.

We've got a helpdesk that is staffed from 8am-6pm (our business hours). Obviously we keep an eye on the network out of hours and 111-service-is-down calls get sent to whoever is on our on-call roster.

From a support perspective, this would be the main difference.

We're not going away anywhere - rather the opposite as we're investing in UFB pretty heavily at present.

Another way of doing it (and possibly the easiest way) is to sign up to an open term home broadband 500gb pack (will cost you $99 connection fee but talk to 123 about this) and just simply pay your relatives bill whilst you're there - that way you're not contracted into anything and can revert it back to it's old state when you move out.

Just get them to add you as an authority - you can make the changes etc and revert it yourself when you move out, then there is no real work on their side.

Hi ignishin

We are currently reviewing our ETF fees for DSL broadband, but if you would like to signup to us we are happy to waive all ETF's (just give us 30 days notice to cancel) so long as you have your own broadband router, and you are prepared to put your own filters on the POTS line, if you do signup just PM us once that's done and we will note on your account

Thanks,
TheRalph
