Good morning.

We've reviewed the pre-sales feedback we've had via email, phone and live chat regarding VDSL this month and one of the messages that have come through strongly is the standard 12 (or in some cases 24) month contract terms imposed by nearly all ISPs offering VDSL is a major barrier.

With this feedback in mind, we've withdrawn the existing offer we had in place and replaced it with a "no contract + free VDSL modem lease" deal.

Yip.

Clothed ADSL: $59+GST / month
Naked ADSL: $79+GST / month

Both plans subject to the exact same Ts & Cs as their big brother VDSL plans.

Brilliant I was nervous about going with you as international bandwidth can be an issue with small isps but no contract is good :)

Yeah? Can't wait to jump on then. I am in a flat until my house is built was struggling to stream an Internet radio station at 64k bitrate on slingshot all you can eat.

What are your terms and conditions re usage, I am not a lecher. Maybe download 150gig to 200gig a month at max. What is excessive use?

Fair use policy according to their website is that users that go over 300gig a month of usage may have their use reviewed dependant on when and how this usage is made up (as in if you are downloading a lot of content at peak times then they may limit your usage (or something along those lines).

Like I said, I'll clarify this in my upcoming blog post but our priorities:

1) Streaming/Hosting/Colocation customers

In the first instance we've bought a large chunk of capacity for these customers. Most of their usage is outbound so it makes sense to sell off the inbound.

2) Business broadband connections

9am - 9pm we make sure our small and medium business customers get great speeds and the business customers that need to move large chunks of traffic during peak hours (we have a few!) move from our Fair Use pool to buying CIR/PIR on a per megabit basis.

3) Residential broadband connections

We have far fewer in this category and I don't have a problem with these customers downloading stuff as long as it's not affecting customers #1 or #2 and no one specific customer is having an unfair impact on other residential customers.

In our communication, we state "unmetered" not "unlimited". It's a finite pool of date but we don't meter it for billing purposes - meaning bill-shock doesn't happen with us and we don't slow customers down when they hit a particular limit.

I presently have a VDSL connection and a very good router (Cisco 887VA) so I don't need any hardware. I am considering switching.

Do you provision these connections through your OWN network or are you reselling?

Hmm, is it possible to get a pre-qual done? 

Last time I got one done it was marginal ~25mbit/5mbit, but i'm looking at moving off xnet but I don't want to be tied into a 12 month contract. (Still waiting on UFB!)

~4-5x increase in upstream BW would be useful too.. Most of my usage after work hours/weekends..

How come the master filter install is optional? Shouldn't it be mandatory unless the customer already has one?

Hmm, I was under the impression that if you have naked DSL with a single jackpoint straight from the demarc, you didn't need one? If you do, can you not buy one and install it yourself? (Probably something I could manage myself >.>)

Otherwise, how do we go up signing up for this deal?

Yeah that's correct. Obviously it's best to get the full install or do it yourself for future proofing, or if you are not sure whether there is only one jack point connected.

Good question.

We get ADSL/VDSL tails via Vocus, delivered into our network.

For UFB we work directly with the LFC (which is only UFF in Tauranga at present).
