Satellite latency

Staff member is moving to rural Te Puke and reqs a net connection - only option appears to be satellite via someone like Farmside.

Catch is, we require the user to have a VPN to us in Auckland, and they will also have a VOIP phone (Avaya) - will the latency of satellite cause headaches ?

I remember back in my IHUG Ultra days, the latency was a killer really....

It was so bad that I ended up putting my parents on a waiting list for ADSL and scrapping Satellite - It's like talking on a walkie talkie, latency can sometimes be 1sec+

Amusing fact, now they've got ADSL, Farmside still rings them asking if they're interested in signing up again. Best to see if there is any WISP's hanging around and go off one of them.

Latency is up to 300ms. Talk to farmside about their options. They do Adsl, wireless and satellite connections.

annoying they don't advertise the speed of their service.

I always tell clients I work with to use Satellite as a last resort, trying to access their PC via teamviewer is very painful
