Hopefully this is the right place.

My problem is this:

I click on a link in Firefox/type in a URL/use the search box/hit a button, basically anything that should take me to another page. Sometimes, this works wonderfully and I savour these few hassle-free minutes, however other times, the page starts to load for less than a second, the status bar proclaims "Done" yet I'm still at the same point I was. There are no errors, just blank tabs and old pages. When I open a link in a new tab, a nice (untitled) tab pops up, complete with URL in the address bar and Done in the status bar, but no page.

The same thing happens in IE, although this time I get "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage." Windows Live Messenger gives me an error 80072efd, but all I can find on that are suggestions that it's a problem with their servers.

I can receive email okay, but sometimes cannot send it.

I'm running XP Pro SP2 with firewall enabled, have a D-Link DSL-502T ADSL Router and am on Xtra's Go Large plan.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Level10: ...and am on Xtra's Go Large plan.

I think this will be your problem...

EDIT:  I should explain my reasoning here before the flame throwers spring into action...
The fact that you can receive e-mail OK leads me to believe that there aren't any problems with your connection, rather it appears to be DNS-related.

A few weeks back there was a thread discussing issues with DNS timeouts for Go Large users.  It's peculiar though, because some Go Large users are not affected at all (Tony Hughes and Cokemaster just to mention a couple).

Your remedies are:

1)  Call Xtra Help Desk and see if they can help
2)  Change to another Xtra plan
3)  Change to another ISP

Of the above options, (2) and (3) will definitely work, as for option (1)... Hard to say Tongue out

Let us know how you get on.

If it's a DNS problem, would using a different DNS server help?

I have a router/adsl modem and using a proxy DNS server, in case the Slingshot DNS goes down.

I'm connecting to Slingshot and OpenDNS, hopefully in that order.

I don't know if this is the best way or the right way to do this, but it seems to go.

Thanks for the tips, I'm trying OpenDNS and everything seems to be going alright, though time will tell. Hopefully my Telstra connection will be ready soon.
