I have done a search but can't find if naked DSL has been legislated for / promised to be offered / etc and if so is there a date in the near future, and also what are the likely line rentals from Telecom going to be?

Cheers, its a pretty simple idea really, I saw it on an overseas forum recently, I'm surprised there aren't more similar ideas around

Naked DSL is part of the governments legislation and as such is presently beening worked on by all the carriers along with LLU (Local Loop Unbundling), there is no time frame at present as scope of work and requirements are still being hashed out, same with pricing...we wish it was quicker and had exact time frames but I'm afraid they won't have them for some time yet.

The Telecommunications Act amendment bill, which legislates this, was passed in December.

The grist mill of bureaucracy grinds slowly, but DSL without having to buy the voice component should come into effect the second half of this year. Costs are still being hammered out; it'll be interesting to see if the Commission uses a retail-minus approach to Naked DSL too... in which case the wholesale cost will be something like current line rental less 16 per cent.

What I'm not sure about is if a provider has to go through the determination process to get Naked DSL. Hope not, as otherwise new products/service won't be available until sometime 2008.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

I spoke to a friend the other day that called TCL and socially engineered their way to naked DSL...

I recall vaguely that the charge would be about $10-15 per month.  This was from either nzherald.co.nz or stuff.co.nz.  I think  that is the LLU price - presumably the naked charge is about the same.

Telecom Wholesale is preparing nDSL at the moment, I hear. Not sure what the cost would be, but hope it won't be as steep as Marko Bogoievski of Telecom estimated at the Management Day Analysts' Briefing in Sydney - $30-$50 a month wholesale.

I heard a rumour that Telecom were thinking about introducing it soon and charging $10 on top of your broadband plan.
