I want to get more than one connection, preferably from different providers.
Is this possible?

Thanks

Damian

I don't see any technical reason why not as the ONT has four ports but I have heard that those other ports are for future services such as paytv, freeview, alarms, etc etc.

I would be keen on hearing if any RSP's have done a "double install" onto the same ONT.

I did enquire about this a couple of months ago, and I was informed that "its not currently possible on Chorus" which I consider completely unacceptable as its a vital part of the spec that Chrous agreed to with the Crown. I was told "Provisioning to the additional ports is earmarked by their [Chorus] project team for November this year".

I wanted to move UFB providers and wanted to have two live for a period to migrate slowly rather than a hard cut over which never goes as it should.

Thanks for the info.
That's a bit of a step back then. Given what fibre can deliver this should be available from day one.

How about more than one connection from the same provider?
Is that the same situation?

I know it can be done with the sams isp and in theory you can have multiple isps on the ont. One of the restrictions is the first isp tends to have ownership of both ata ports. And if you're with Telecom we hope to deliver our voice service on the ata ports so having Telecom as the second isp may not be supported by Telecom.

If you need some help if you are moving to Telecom then message me and I should be able to help.

Interesting, I don't suppose there would be a short, layman friendly answer as to why the ata ports can't be provisioned separately? And/or why 'naked' internet services over UFB arn't an option (which seems to be implied)?
I realise UFB is still new, but I feel like this should have been as least decided at the design phase of the netowrk, even if not currently technically implemented. Did the government sell us yet another taxpayer funded lemon?

The two ATA ports share the same config with only the telephone number being different between the two ports. Hence they point to the same sip server and hence only one isp for both.

I'm not sure why they are bundled by Chorus. That's a question for them. Also UFB is still a newish product and there is no technical reason from what I have seen that all ports can't spin independently as they are all delivered on a separate s/cvlan.
In regards to naked. That's not something Telecom currently offer. So that would be why Telecom wouldn't be the second isp. No technical limitation just not a product that is on offer.

Also not sure what the other lfc's are doing. Time will tell how it all shakes out once the customer uptake increases.

That's wrong. Both ata's are logically separated and have completely different config delivered on different vlans.

On some of the ONTs that Chorus/LFCs are using that maybe correct, but not for all of them. They can only support a single SIP proxy and deliver both ATA ports on the same VLAN.

Yes it can be done and it is called an "incremental" service. Additional ethernet ports can/will be able to be ordered but they come without ATA ports.

There are some restrictions on how you can mix incremental services with the primary service. For example, you may not be able to get Bitstream 2 and Bitstream 3 services on the same ONT. You will need to install a second ONT if you want to do that.

It is possible to have multiple RSPs sharing the same ONT but they cannot share the same port (e.g. using different VLANs).

Yes a RSPs has done a double install - maybe more of them which I don't know about.
