Hello,

I'm wanting to get internet for the summer holidays but I cannot find any ISPs that fit my criteria.

Many of the well known ISPs have 12 month contract, obviously I require one for 2 months. (or one with no contract at all)

From the chorus website, It says this when I enter my address on their "Network Capability Map"

I think 40-50 GB per month would be a good amount of data for me.
I plan to be playing online games with the occasional downloading and web browsing.
I do NOT want a phone line with this.
I don't have a modem at all.
I have no idea about the wiring in the house but we've previously had home phone line.

I am not very "tech savvy" and I am hoping you could assist me.
Any advice or tips for signing up for an internet subscription would be appreciated aswell as this is my first time!
Also, sorry about the bad structure of this post and If it's in the wrong section. (I searched this forum but found threads from about 2009!)

Aside from having to beg, borrow or steal a modem, it sounds like bigpipe might be worth a shot - iirc, there's no connect fee, no signup fee, and no contracts.

Fyx is also an option if you know you won't be doing a lot of data.
50 GB is around $70/month, extra data at 30c/GB
Take off $25 if there's an existing active home line service.

If you can't find a modem they go for $20 on TradeMe.

yep, could try Bigpipe, although they are only at 'trial' period, so not sure when they will actually be taking people on.

If you aren't 'tech savvy' you might want to consider Flip too, they are more aimed at people like that, also offer no contract and free connection, and have similar prices for the amount of data you want ($75 for 60GB). you'll still need to buy a modem though.

Telecom or Snap would be my pick.

Both will provide a router as well as good support. Telecom's support would be slightly better than Snap's but in reality you won't need too much. Just don't start moaning to your ISP when 'lag' occurs and you won't have any problems.

Any idea what type of modem would be suitable for our needs? I'm only planning to be connecting to my computer and PlayStation console.

Edit: This one looks good.

Those D-Links are getting pretty old and unreliable now...

If you don't need WiFi, a Draytek 120 is a very good option.

Before getting too invested in this it may pay to check that your holiday destination does not have a port waiter scenario. This is more likely to occur at holiday destinations than urban areas.

Please note: I have a professional bias towards Vodafone.
