Hi. I am having a bit of a posting-binge today. This is my 3rd one!

I am with Slingshot DSL, and according to speedtest.com I am getting 3-4Mbps download and 130kbps upload. I forgot to note the latency.

Internet is OK, but the streaming radio stations I like (BFM and one in Germany) keep buffering, and eventually cut out totally.

Do you reckon this could be due to a high latency at peak hours?

The German station is streaming fine right now (11:15 PM).

Ideas/opinions would be appreciated.

Hi,

Give my station a try (link at the bottom of my posting). This server is located in Lower Hutt and no issues with uploading problems. See if it buffers or not.

It could come down to the station streaming having issues (overcrowded server) or problems with Slingshot.
I've seen problems with Slingshot dialup where traffic just stops passing for long periods of time for no reason. Would there be any reason why this problem wouldn't also be seen on adsl?

Anyway, let us know if the link below has the same problems.

Thanks for your reply.
I forgot to mention that I use i-tunes for streaming (I have a Mac).

I tried your link, no go. It would not even start playing, it just tried to connect and then gave up.

No surprise though, I am always noticing Mac compatibility issues in New Zealand. I am interested in listening to your station some time though. It looks interesting.

Hmm odd.. I guess you tried the 'high' link? I thought Itunes would natively support that link, being in aac+
You could try the other link (low) as it's mp3, but the bitrate is lower so might not be a good test.

The low qual works, itunes 7 on OSX 10.4.9. Powerbook G4 12".
