You can now opt-out of White/Yellow Pages in New Zealand, if you're willing to give your email address...

On this, I see around our area that they are being delivered (over the weekend of a Cyclone - so most just end up as mush) - walked past a lot of them on the side of the road this morning.

I don't think we got one (unless the Wife picked it up and put it straight into the bin) but most of the neighbours look like they did.

Good, done. Waste of paper - Telecom got out of printing these books at just the right time (and made a pretty penny selling them I seem to recall). They have got a lot smaller too from what I see - In Auckland we used to get 3 quite large books - it only looks like it is one, or two, much smaller books now,.

Seems that Auckland is special, and the opt-in was a trial.  I don't know if it's still opt-in, or opt-out or what.  But I'm more hestitant about them having my email adddress than having to burn/throw away a book.

It should opt-in everywhere, or able to be picked up from a post office or such.

Ok, it seems that Auckland Residential isn't distributed by default, but yellow pages / business directory is, which may on occassion be helpful.

Come on now, the telephone books are extremely useful and people use them all the time ... to raise their computer screen higher, as door stops, as weights to press newly glued items together, ... some people even look up phone numbers in them, so I hear. ;-)

They have reduced the size of the books so much, that I can't see any reason not to get it. Infact I still occasionally use it, and it is easier to use than their website.

Especially telemarketers which is the reason why I had to change my phone number last year and not make the mistake of putting it in the book or online whitepages again.

I made the mistake of bringing mine in and putting it in the flexibin when its paper recycling night so I could have just moved it to the kerb with the rest of the cardboard boxes. Ah well. Small enough not to bother fishing out of the flexibin to move.

"This 'telephone' has too many shortcomings to be seriously considered as a means of communication. The device is inherently of no value to us."

Form doesn't even work for me. Tells me to choose an address in a drop down and there is no drop down.

Guess they want to make it hard for people.
