Okay someone please let me know how can i make downloaidng torrents faster? I am on that unlimited bandwidth plan and using Bitlord or utorrent to donwload. I had a look on internet and it suggests port forwarding but obviously it aint gonna work on xtra cuz of dynamic ip addresses.

What else can i dooooo???? Its making me insane

those ppl at xtra helpdesk yap yap yap abut downloading torrents coming form overseas sites etc but never offer a proper answer.. who hires these monkeys anyway URGH

Port forwarding works regardless of your IP facing the Internet - what matters is the IP on your computer inside your LAN. The forward is from your modem to an internal IP.

Check the manual or visit portforward.com for instructions.

The Help Desk (at Xtra and any other ISP) can't help much in your LAN configuration, because each customer has a different setup, so don't blame them.

Okay! I did the local address port forwarding

but torrents are still slower than Jessica simpson's brain *CRIES*

Torrents are probably covered under the ill fated 'traffic management' policy that was implemented on 'Go Large', thus there won't be much you can do to improve your connection.

yeah and the xtra help desk dorks are so under denial when they're like"its got nothing to do with us".. yeah whatever

sometimes i do get like good speed though

I really wanna watch this TV show tonight

There are other plans offered by both Xtra and other ISPs, which are better suited if you would like to download using peer to peer traffic. Of course if one was looking to download vast amounts of data - then be prepared to pay accordingly.

Calling helpdesk staff 'dorks' is hardly a constructive way to resolve your issue, as chances are you are affected by traffic management policy (remember ticking that box in the plan change page?) and additionally downloading internationally on that plan is not the greatest in terms of speed.

Yeah I'm on the xtra goslow plan and yes torrent are slow and of course they come under the traffic management policy. The best I ever get with torrent is about 30 Kbytes/sec.

I have no problem torrenting on go large...
uTorrent is the best client for windows (in my opinion). Make sure that it's showing NAT and DHT are working.

Fossie what were you downloading and do you care to share with me your utorrent settings?

Yes I'm portforwarded and also used XP Anti-Spy to open up more ports. Dunno how to check whether NAT and DHT are working but I've always got a green tick.

I haven't been downloading huge amount of stuff between 4 to midnight but I think I've been somehow placed into that "fair use pool" thingy where I have to share restricted bandwidth with other big downloaders - this is not fair... I turn on utorrent after midnight and go to bed but when I get up the speed's never over 40k these days.

I configured my utorrent according to this video on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVq2GkzNrY8
with my portforded and incoming ports patched to 50 initially it worked miracles and my DL speed was around 150kbps, but that only lasted a couple of days.

Even with Protocol Encryption enabled it still doesn't do much good.

if you want to watch a tv show tonight, buy it. The warehouse has a selection and jb hi fi has a superb selection.

Paradox, I think urghxtra was probably referring to a current TV show (like D.H., Ugly Betty, or Grey's etc.) I'm not sure though.

But agree with you on buying DVDs from the Warehouse, I love it! Nothing beats their bulk buying therefore price slashing - wins all the other major sound stores big time.

Yes that is go large. It also depends on the amount of seeders and peers. Large amount of seeders = :) Large amount of peers = :(
Today I was only getting 140Kb/s on torrents and http.
In uTorrent there is a port forwarding test. Do you pass that?

Yep, totally port forwarded :) That's how I got the green tick.
140kbps is still very decent! Is that because you're on Mac?

I get the same speeds in windows.
A problem could be the fact that windows xp sp2 limits the amount of tcp connections you can make. (In an attempt to slow down the spreading of worms etc etc)

Join a nice private tracker. There are some really nice ones out there. Hd only trackers.. etc etc
