connect a bt outlet

Hi, i am having some troubles in connection with a bt outlet

The 6 wires coming from the wall are the colours:

Black
Red
White
Blue
Orange
Green

I would of thought that the black goes to slot 1, red to red, white to slot 2, green to slot 3, blue to slot 4, red to slot 5 and orange to slot 6, but it doesn't work.

so... im just wondering if theres an aussie telstra techie or somone with alike skills out there to give me guide for which colours go to which...

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jake.

Red/White are the pair you want.

They just need to be connected to pins 2 & 5 which are the middle pins on each side.

So, I don't need to connect the other colour of wire, do I?

It _used_ to be red and white, but when changing over to a master splitter and 2 wire sockets many installers are grabbing the blue and white of the old 6 core cable for the first line just to be consistant. It doesnt really matter as on the old cable they are just all twisted together rather than being proper separate pairs.

The vast majority of six way cabling is still using red/white. Only the odd numpty (electrician, sky installers etc) use blue/white. I would say 99% of the time red/white will be connected.

OP: Yes don't worry about the rest. Just connect red/white to pins 2/5. If red/white doesn't work try orange/black and then green/blue.
