I had fibre installed during the week.

The ONT is installed in a hallway cupboard. I'll be wall mounting my router next to it. I'm trying to keep the install as tidy as possible.

The ONT power supply is huge, with a 1.2m cable and then a 2m power cord. Physically the power pack is big as well. I only need about 150mm (if that) length in to my powerpoint.

The PSU is a 12v 1A unit. I was thinking about going to jaycar and just purchasing a nice 12v 1A adapter but.... the ONT uses a rectangular 6pin? plug with 2 pins used.

Does anyone know if this plug is a standard plug can get from an electronics supplier?

I'm obviously not going to cut the plug off the chorus supplied PSU but would like to be able to tidy up this cupboard with a tiny power adapter.

I'm trying to avoid a massive cable bundle. My Nas is there with a massive powerpack, Router, ONT, network cables. The cupboard isn't very big and I hate a cable mess.

You'll have a hard time trying to find an entire power adapter to replace it (or just the right connection) however you can always replace the 240v power cord with a shorter one as I know it's pretty long.

Any male IEC to something cable will work i.e. I have a 0.5m M-to-F IEC going from my UPS to ONT power supply. You could just get 0.5m IEC M to mains M (I've also got a shorter one than that).

What would be the situation with a DC based UPS, can you change the power supply in that instance?

It's not yours to change, It's owned by the LFC and if your ONT ever dies and you've messed with the PSU you could be in for a bill for the ONT

Most problems are the result of previous solutions...

Not sure what you mean. There's no magic involved here; the ONT power supply requires 240v AC which it can get from the mains or through 240v UPS etc.

If your UPS puts out DC then it's not going to power the ONT power supply however depending on the voltage, current and adapter could possibly power the ONT directly, but probably not.

The ONT thing is a big issue compared to copper services....

I'm not sure how they work, I mean with a DC 12v cable coming direct out of the UPS to the ONT. That might not be how DC UPS units work though?

If you had the right adapter on the end or did some hackory to get it to fit into the ONT then yes that would probably work.

When you can get a 12v 1A power adaptor the size of a cell phone charger why do they need to supply a massive power supply box?

$$ probably, however I could imagine a few UPS / server rack / cabinet setups that would be doing the same IEC M to IEC F connection I've used.

Really? Its only basic off the shelf adapter. I'm not exactly trying to re-wire the internals of chorus's equipment. The chances of a different PSU damaging their equipment would be pretty low. If it happened I'd pay for it.

Really? Its only basic off the shelf adapter. I'm not exactly trying to re-wire the internals of chorus's equipment. The chances of a different PSU damaging their equipment would be pretty low. If it happened I'd pay for it.

It may be off the shelf - but its been matched with their ONT by the LFCs and at around $300 for a replacement ONT - I think you will find buying a shorter extn cord cheaper
