I'm suffering from a flaky Xtra connection here in Glenfield. It drops the line every couple of minutes.
I looked at the ADSL stats from my DLink router (DSL-G604T). And it tells me things like:
SNR Margin: 2db (downstream), 27db (upstream)
Line Attenuation: 49db (downstream), 31db (upstream)The SNR margin may change between 2 to 12 (and right now as I check, I get 2147483647 :-) Clearly a bug...)
Anyway, I read that low SNR margins are not a good sign (figures). Should I call Xtra customer service and complain? Can they do something about it? Is this clearly their issue, or possibly something with the wiring in my house?
I am wondering whether reducing the speed would help to improve the SNR margin. If that is so, how could I go about doing that? My router tells me that the data rate is about 3100 kbps down. Honestly, I'd be happy to trade some of that for better line stability. Looking at the router's menu, I can't find the option to reduce the speed, though. I don't even know if that could be done in a one-sided manner. I also looked at the available options in the Xtra broadband plan page, but I only find 'max' as the possible down speed. Also not very helpful...
Thank you very much...
