I saw some guys from Chorus installing this box (the one in the middle) and the thing it's connected to on the right, a while back.

There's a cash machine directly below if that helps identify its purpose.

I'm going to take a stab, and say 4pr fibre disribution/ETP

Or fibre-ethernet tranceiver stuck away to terminate a fibre connection for it. Pipe right/up being the incoming run

/edit with the laser warning its unlikely to be a hidden antenna. But more square ducting one would hope

It's a passive Optical Termination Point. There wouldn't be an ONT or any powered devices inside it. It's used for patching from the Chorus external network to the fibre inside the premsis.

Yep thats a stock TE fibre splice box used by Chorus for some fibre terminations, typically commercial UFB and RBI rather than residential where a smaller box is used. Commercial will typically have 12cores or more dropped (hence a larger box), residential is typically only 1 or 2 cores, I am sure someone from Chorus will detail that in more accurate detail.

By whom? The poster, or the scads of reporters in the UK who recently wrote articles about the Romaninan cash machine scam? It's more of a fact than a racial comment.

It's a BUDI box (i think that's what they call it). Just simply a distribution point for multi-tenant buildings. No splitter or anything special, just a patch panel really.

It will have a 12-Fibre (or something around that size) come in to it and then the smaller duplex's from each tenant is run to it. That building looks like the Roslyn shops so obviously atleast one of tenants has requested fibre so they stick that box in straight away to make it easy for future tenants to get fibre.

Tick for Roslyn shops / Yep the one on the left is a 'Gael' Box (So named because the originals were made by Gael Switchboards ) and contains a Chorus Copper terminal in it for local idividua/multi connections to the shops and the one in the midde is a BUDI Box (Made by Tyco for Fibre networks - I cant rember what BUDI stands for) for Multi Fibre distribution and in this case, as the area is blown fibre, has the end of a 12way mutiduct in it - singleways are then connected to it, when there is a request for service, and up through the ceiling space of the buiding and on to each tenent. On the right we have a piece of Legrand Trunking to help accommodate/protect the multiple singleways up into the ceiling.

[Fix the typos and tried to put some hyper links in but they got stuffed up so took them out again]
