I did have to cringe at this part: "Internal house wiring can be resolved by an electrician". Not to say that there aren't some sparkies with a clue about internet and phone wiring.

Good news for people who live on the highways in the outskirts. If it can support VDSL(probably can anyways who am I to question it) that would be a damn welcoming for people who love content and huge households.
A bit like Maungatapere. Only in the south.

Yep the cabinet in the picture does look to be VDSL enabled, the two iver side of it are planned and further down are both already VDSL enabled too.

RCK/AR, Planned (Jul-2014 to Jun-2015)
SCK/B, Planned (Jul-2015 to Jun-2016)

cabinets look pretty nicely arranged for vdsl all along there actually.

Aaarrggh.. Of course, it's usually only the horror stories that make it here, but there do seem do be a fair few sparkies that really don't know the basic when it comes to data cabling.

And it's not just sparkies. I've been into a brand new just completed apartment building in Wellington that has no ducting for fibre, 25pr cat3 between floors and BT jackpoints wired in series in the apartments with no patch panel / wiring hub.

How such a design can be signed off still shows a complete lack of understanding by the building industry.

Running services between floors is easy through floors up risers is easy.. But the only solution to get fibre to apartments is to run conduit along corridors and conduit inside the apartments. It's the reason many MDUs will never get fibre.
