By correctly I mean up to the standards expected by Chorus.

Just had Chorus techs in to do a splitter install. I don't have an ETP. The sole phone socket and DSL socket are in the same location.

They did install Cat6 to the phone line under the house, as they were supposed to (the existing cable wasn't even twisted pair) without having to ask. But they did only install one Cat6 and put the phone line on to (blue pair) of the same Cat 6. For some reason I was thinking a semi structured cabling solution is the norm i.e. installing 2 Cat 6, or at least some other cable for the phone in addition to the Cat 6 for the DSL. But looking around, I can't actually see much talk of this and I do see some recommending this setup for DIY installs where you don't want to bother with structured cabling. (There's also the fact the techs didn't even have a double RJ45 faceplate.) Still since I can't find much confirmation either way and from what I read, the techs can skimp on the connections, thought I'd check.

I guess in some cases they may reuse the older line for the phone, in this case they didn't possibly partially because they were using it to pull the Cat6 down, and also because it was a bit crap. (I'm fine with them making this choice.)

Cheers

Sounds like there's nothing wrong with what they did. There is no good reason to run two cables for this.

Cable from demarc to VDSL jack-point only is the norm. Splitter usually in ETP, but where no ETP it could be behind wall of first jack point, or under house etc. Yes cable can be shared (on separate pair) with voice too. No there will not be any structured cabling done with a VDSL install, nor any other work done to other wiring / jack-points.
