Now With Naked DSL I am guessing that your line becomes "dry" i.e. no dailtone on the line Or is it just unregestered for voice calls i.e. there is a dialtone you just cant ring out.

Also a lot of people overseas talk about load cols on the line and having them removed to speed things up. Do thy exist in New Zealand? and if so dose removing them help? the theory goes that thay block the higher frequencys .

Also is it faster because it can use all of the lines bandwidth not having a voice "hole" below 25.85Khz and maybe use some standard that is symmetric like VDSL If you want more than 1Mbit on ADSL up or 3.5Mbists up on ADSL2/ADSL2+

You won't get voice service, your line will probably be disconnected from the POTS equipment so probably will get no tones at all?

Loading coils are used in rural environments from memory, urban users probably won't have them. Having one on the line will probably ruin your DSL session pre naked DSL in any case.

No, it won't make your line any faster. You are using the same DSL standards, so there won't be any increase in speeds unless the work at the exchange improved the quality of the line...

So with no dial-tone how do you diagnose a line fault (without relying on your router)?

You just don't troubleshoot the voice component. So you'd be looking at things like whether you get DSL, what rates you sync at etc...

There is still a tone on the line, its the same as "Ingaged" one I think?, or at least it is for me.

Yep things leke up / down streem SNR / Db

and also signal level on aech of the up /down streem bands

ADSL2+ supports use of the pots channel if it should be available, this increases the uplink speed by approx 250kb/s. There should be no loading coils on any line in NZ that could currently support DSL, (ie <5km lines) a line of such length has never had loading coils excpet in the old open wire days.

When phone first disconnected got the overloaded exchange noise when picked up phone. When tried internet kept getting remote computer not responding even after telecom had said they'd done work at exchange.

Week later and hassles phone call to say they'd done wiring at exchange (thought it was suppose to be done week ago) and they did some wiring at my place.

After work done, if plug in a powered phone no noise coming down line at all, if talk into phone voice comes out ear part of phone. Haven't tried unpowered phone.

My modem is now connecting at the fastest speeds it's capable of 7.6 M bits and just ove 0.8 M bits upload. Don't know if that's due to ISP connected to or if it's to do with connection not having to compet with phone connection.

Speeds on speed test about same as before with downloads but uploading about 7 times faster and national pings are faster.

That is to be expected because the line is no longer terminated (for audio signals) at the exchange and therefore most of the transmitted signal is being reflected back into the earpiece of the phone.
