I can only get adsl2 in Birkdale, Auckland and I wondered if anyone who has a UFB connection that has a line of sight to the Inwards Reserve area and would be interested in setting up a Point to Point wireless connection from their home/premises so that I can take advantage of the higher internet speeds.

I would also be interested in any other suggestions that users may have as well.

When are you due for fibre? I have it (across the way from you in Beach Haven) but I don't think a wireless signal would reach to where you are.

UFB is not scheduled until 2018. Normal wireless will not reach into Birkdale but there are units that I am willing to buy and install that will reach kilometres rather than a few hundred metres. e.g. Ubiquity. I would obviously pay for all the gear,install and data. It is still cheaper than the $22,000 Chorus quote to have Fibre layed to my house.

So I live in this area. And I don't have UFB Either. My ADSL2+ connection was about 12mbps down and 1 up.

I have a friend on birkdale road who has UFB and I was going to hook up to it. I had a couple of nanostation M5's. I DONT have direct line of sight to his house because of a bushy tree in the autumn i get peeps of his place. But I can see his next door neighbours house quite clearly. He is about 700meters from me. I did get a signal but it had packet loss and I didn't bother tweaking it mainly because of obstructions in the fresnel zone.

Yeh I think the ADSL near the reserve is quite slow, and VDSL is not available. But unless you can get a really clear line of sight shot you are just going to lose packets and there will be re-trasmits.

If you don't need a huge amount if data you should check out 4G. Its 60GB, its cheap, and it will probably go a lot faster than ADSL, and you can take it with you if you got on holiday to a batch (it might still work:P. This might be your best bet.

I also got my nanostations lying around which i never ended up using which i may be interested in selling.

EDIT: I was able to get VDSL with about 25mbit down now that G.998 is available which is a pretty good speed for me in my opinion.

The fibre rollout around this area has been done weird-ly, in my opinion. They did one side of Rangatira Rd but not the other, and all of Lysander Crescent (hardly upmarket housing) can get it as well. Yet 500m up the road from me, it's ADSL or dialup. Still, I'm not complaining - I guess I'm just lucky (and grateful) to have fibre.

2018 is not really that long to wait, it only sucks if your ADSL is less than 10mbps.

I am down off tramway, and I just sold. Going to build a BRAND NEW house in torbay, and that address wont be getting it till 2019/2020. its just they way the CFH cookie crumbled. Some areas had to be first and some had to be last.

I would suspect the age of the copper in some of the patchy areas was due to be replaced anyway so they rolled out fibre there. OR there were schools and business' nearby.

Sorry. Can you get 4G? That will be your fastest option unless you can do a point 2 poin wireless with clear line of sight.
We have ran speed tests at work on our 4g RBI modems and been getting just over 100mbps throughput.

Speak to Top Quality IT. They did some wireless P2P stuff for their offices at one point.
