Hi all,

I was expecting the Minister to decide by the end of 2015 but still we don't have a decisions announced on which towns get this....????

I have gone back through the forum here 5 pages or so and no recent references to this..

Any info???

sooner than later I hope....

the planning/building teams at UFF must be running out of work now that the network build is complete ..

I've sent two emails to Amy Adams (Minister for Communications) about this. The first got a response on March 6 2016 saying:

As you are aware, the Government is extending the UFB programme [sic], with additional funding of up to $210 million. The UFB extension will deploy fibre-to-the-premises infrastructure to additional towns and areas outside of the existing UFB footprint, to achieve at least 80 per cent population coverage. Areas that will receive new broadband investment under the UFB extension will be announced once deployment contracts have been finalised. I expect to be able to make these details public during the first half of this year. Areas that are not covered by the UFB extension may be covered under phase two of the RBI programme.

...

After we hadn't heard anything by the middle of the year, I followed up to see if there was any more details and got a response on 16 August 2016 from Amy Adams secretary:

...

Negotiations are taking longer than initially thought and they are still underway. Announcements are due shortly. Apologies that I can not provide any further information at this point in time.

Work on RBI2 had been delayed while the Government and officials determined the final footprint of the fibre-optic ultrafast broadband (UFB) network.

UFB will be extended from its current coverage target of 75 per cent of the country through a separate initiative called UFB2.

The decision to release a tender for RBI2 suggests the contract for UFB2 is very close to being finalised by government investment vehicle Crown Fibre Holdings (CFH).

UFB2 has a minimum goal of extending UFB to another 5 per cent of the country, taking coverage to 80 per cent of homes and businesses.

CFH is expected to announce before Christmas that network company Chorus has won the contract for UFB2 and that the extra coverage area will be much larger than that – potentially leaving only 10 to 15 per cent of households outside the reach of fibre-to-the-home and in the wider RBI zone.

CFH spokeswoman Anna Verboeket declined to comment, saying negotiations on UFB2 were continuing.

Whoops tried to reply to a post and it disappeared...so here...

I have also emailed the Minister Amy Adams and got a reply from a secretary that its in line for the Minister to reply to...about a month back....I hope we can get a definitive announcement shorty this month...!!!...Its been a year now of waiting to see what will happen locally with this infrastructure upgrade...

Uploading my videos to YouTube will go much faster and therefore I will be that much more productive....Laurie

Im hanging out for this. I really hope something is getting put closer for me, I can shoot an arrow at houses that have VDSL yet I'm on 10mb
