When did this happen? I liked the old map much better, it gave you an idea of what services were available around your local area. Now it doesn't show any colour grading at all, and the map isn't even scrollable. Bit of a step backwards, IMO.

It's actually pretty cool, shows your current line sync speed as well.

Interesting. A 50 / 50 mix with the people in my small street having ADSL and VDSL. Even the old folks next door have VDSL and the d**k on the other side of our house is getting 3Mbps faster than us :(

Seems this is actually exceptionally buggy.

ill give a few examples off the top of my head

My place, 15/1 adsl reads off 6 as both the max and the current - i suspect this is due to the mess of addresses to real addresses here though and i really need to double check actual sam id, possibly even see if chorus wouldnt mind actually putting the icons in the right place (that's just me being a tad ocd in it however.)

Place i used to live at, 997 vdsl 70/10 with ease, lists 20 as both current and maximum possible.

Apartment friend just moved into 9mbit with MDU delopyment for fiber underway - not actually complete yet however. lists 6 with a max of 200.

I will give it props, a few other locations i looked up, it is exact on what im seeing over remote management currently, Although i found many vdsl capable lines listed as flat 50 possible, even if they were actually borderline and clearly not.

we can all see where they are going with these new maps, obviously new there are bugs and flaws.

Im surprised they arent presenting prequal values for the maximum possible speed, where possible on copper tech since they appear to be polling the line itself for current where possible.

As others have pointed out, your ability to see things is once again stripped back even further. A move i didnt support with the drop of support for bcc and even more so now, am disappointed with.

For your average joe, it does exactly what they would want it to in a more cleaner way however. Which is clearly what chorus were going for.

somewhat sets the standard for the more techy orientated that a ccm account is handy.

3mbit can be as little as a snr fluctuation, different modem handling a different sync, chipset etc.

even a larger jump, can be argued its simply a profile difference.

Wow, has that been dumbed down! I liked being able to scroll the map and zoom to see when UFB was coming to various areas.

Yes this is very annoying. I was enjoying tracking progress around my area. Do please send chorus an email and let them know that they should still have a link the other map.

I also wonder whether it could be construed as a privacy issue to be able to look up random addresses and see which type of plan they're paying for. I could imagine some dodgy salesmen using this information to zero in on people with "money to spare".

*sob* there's no colour around my house at all so I don't even qualify in the "Planned after Jul 17" group. I'm guessing I'll get fibre in the next century

It makes for interesting reading in my street. I am in a "no fibre yet" zone on the western hills of Lower Hutt. Of the 24 houses in my street:

14 households have ADSL - the range of speeds are from up to 7 - 14 Mbps.
7 households have VDSL (including me) - the range of speeds is from up to 32 - 54 Mbps.
3 households apparently have nothing.

Are these actual figures Chorus are getting from each address by monitoring the line?

If so, how do I get better performance, given that my house has the slowest VDSL speed at 32 Mbps?! Two houses further away from the cabinet than me have faster speeds (41 and 42 Mbps). My house is the newest in the street by quite some years, so the wiring should be in reasonable shape. I have a master splitter installed. I have an unlimited plan, so haven't exceeded a monthly cap. My modem is less than a year old. During the time we're home, we probably have 1 laptop and 2 or 3 phones connected to wifi at the same time (plus 1 Chromecast, although we'd only use that once or twice a week for a couple of hours at a time, and during that time most of the other devices would be inactive).

Can I just add my appreciation - when an organisation rolls out a big change like this they normally take a pretty stubborn stance towards those whose need was being met by the old tool but not the new one. Keeping the old one around means we have the best of both worlds.

I'm also seeing some interesting results for my address, which has ADSL @ 17mbps on Slingshot's unbundled network. The tool reports I'm connected to VDSL at 26mbps. Can Chorus' tool read sync rates when you're not connected to Chorus gear?

Edit: to add - this is a godsend for house hunters! Not only can I see whether UFB is hooked up, and, if not, what the copper connects at, I can see at a glance which houses are currently disconnected and are therefore most likely getting flipped...

Don't forget about Vodafone's cable network if you're in one of those regions though. Lots of addresses I've checked apparently have no service, but some of them are on cable.

They can't. My parents have an unbundled connection and this tool just says "potential speed up to 10 Mbps".
