Hi,

UFB becomes available in my street next month and I'm thinking of making the switch. However I have 2 questions that hopefully someone here can answer.

1. Do any ISPs offer 100/100? I can't seem to find any yet it seems like the perfect sweet spot.

2. I use a video streaming service with servers located in the US. Is there anyway to test pings to the servers from NZ based ISPs to determine which ISP offers the lowest ping?

Yes - you can get 100/100 however this comes at the same cost (mostly) as 200/200 which may be overkill but works well. I for starters don't need anything close to 200/200 however I like having the upload there for the times I need it. Most of the time 100/100 is on business plans which are a little more expensive than (for example) BigPipes unlimited 200/200 plan.

For video streaming to the US all ISP's are pretty much of a muchness achieving around 140ms to the US. Most will have local CDN's but for video streaming (as in, if you're using something like Amazon Instant for example) latency is not an issue at all. I have never had any issues with my BigPipe connection with content in the US.

Look at Truenet for measurements. Look at company websites for plans - 100/100 would only really be useful if you upload as much as you download, which is rare. 200/200 may be more common and much the same price.

That won't always determine where the content is actually coming from if it uses a CDN.

Thanks for your replies. Turns out Chorus don't know when fibre will be available in my street. The Chorus website says Sep-16 but they say it's more likely Dec-16 or sometime in 2017, they're not sure :-(
