Hey

So my parents VDSL is losing sync multiple times per day and doesn't resync until the phone is picked up and a dial line is established then after a minute or so the Internet starts working again.

When the fault occurs the modem says "establishing link" beside DSL sync status.

Anyone know what is likely causing the problem here?

They have a new VDSL master filter (I installed it), they have new vodafone VDSL modem (HG659) and recently got a new cordless phones (were having issues before the new phones).

Chorus is checking it out today for them....

OK so post an update after Chorus has been and see what they say, Does sound like a house wiring issue and if after the ETP they could be charged

Sounds like a wiring fault tbh.

are you sure you installed that filter correctly?

Yeah, it sounds like the filter is either faulty or installed in the wrong place. Is there any chance the alarm is wired in before the filter? Does it still disconnect after removing all phone related equipment including Sky decoder? What are the DSL stats while its connected?

Time to find a new industry!

Chorus have "fixed" it, but issue still occurs, they looking to get it looked at again today.

Filter is connected to the phone line as it comes into the house. I have checked there is nothing connected to it first.

Incoming line is connected to "Line" modem to "DSL" phone to "Phone".

Last night their internet dropped at 9:30pm and didn't resync until 8am when the phone was taken off the hook. It would have been down longer if the phone wasn't taken off the hook.

Is there a correct way to wire the filter colour cable wise?

Orange pair to incoming line, green pair to dedicated xDSL jack, blue pair to rest of house phone wiring.

Indeed, that's what I've done. But within each pair this is no right or wrong way to connect them up (like with power where there is positive and negative).

for a test, i would recommend removing the filter, see if things go okay.

Could be the filter has gone bad.

I would pick a nice day, and do a reasonable test connected direct to the ETP (as in outside, not through the house wiring)
