Ive had a quick search through previous posts and cant find anyone giving an actual method/formula how to work it out.
Can someone let us know, and then maybe make this post a sticky ? :)

You may get an idea of where it is & how far your away from it.

I think if you ring telecom, they can tell you from their database.
I recently was looking at broadband options for a customer who lives in a rural area and telecom quoted them as being 6.8km, out of broadband reach from the Patoka exchange. Quite accurate so I wonder if they did a line attenuation test or if they have an auctual wiring map to refer to.

I know some modems auctually try to estimate the distance from the line attenuation etc. Check the line statistics in your modems setup website - if it does show a distance it may be sort of accurate.

They refer to a wiring map, and in most cases this takes a tier 2 rep to actively searching the persons connection and following the cable to the exchange in order to measure it, takes a bit of time to do this so its not really something that you can just look up easily.
