Hi

I am looking at buying a new broadband modem.
Currently I have a DSL-502T. The only thing I run through it of significance is WinMx and Utorrent and has ports configured for it as such. This is then plugged into a Netgear DS116 Dual Speed Hub of which there is 3 PCs/laptops plugged into that are all networked and can access each others hard drives.

I was looking at a DSL-604T modem on Trade me but I want to be sure I'm buying the right modem for what I need.

The reason why I looked at that modem was:

1: Wireless so wife can study/surf in front of the TV in bedroom and i can join her so she doesn't moan at me.
2: Has ports to plug into into encase I don't want to use wireless and can leave other 2 PC/laptops plugged in at all times if I choose.
3: By picking a modem that has the option of 3/4 plug-ins at the back, I can do away with the hub. For the future, I would be looking to run the printer off of it as well although I would research that first because I am not sure on the first steps on setting that one up. I have an external hard drive and would optionally look at running that off the modem as well (if in fact, it can be done) so house can access files.

Would this sound like the right modem for me? Can anyone advise anything better/more suitable - Pros/cons etc?

Kind Regards

I've recently bought the Linksys WAG200G which seems pretty good thus far (also upgraded from a DSL-502T).  This has a ADSL2+ Modem, Internet-sharing Router, 4-Port Switch and Wireless-G Access Point in one box, and is currently $130 at Dick Smith.  Pretty simple setup (although you may want to avoid the setup program on the CD and do it manually as per the user guide).  No direct printer connection (unless your printer has wireless) but you can print through the PC that the printer is connected to.

Don't think I've heard much in the way of rave reviews about the DSL-604T (although that could have been DLink in general).

If your printer has ethernet, you can plug it in anywhere you like on your network. Just have to tcpip install it on a pc somewhere! and direct all print jobs to that pc.

Thank you

I bought the Linksys WAG200G after it was suggested and I did my own research. It works fine for my home and has fulfilled all my needs

As a side issue, is there a web site or maybe advanced instructions as to the best configuration to maximise the ability of this modem to use with the XTRA ISP? I have searched the net but nothing popped up. Naturally every ISP is different so may have different setting compared to other ISPs.

Feedback would be greatly appreciated

Kind Regards
