I want to set up a couple of IP cameras at three different locations. Two at each.
But the ip cameras would be the only object there using the internet conection.
I wanted to know whats the best plan/s to get for just the use of Ip cameras.
Also if there is a way that i cud split a connection at three different places.

The only way you can share a broadband connection is by using LAN/WAN - i.e. you would need to provide network connections between the locations using WiFi or Ethertube, or whatever. If they are not on the same block, or with a few hundred metres of each other, you will need seperate internet connections.

What resolution are the cameras, is it a live video feed or a series of stills?

Low res cameras. Probably around 320 X 240. The distance between the locations is quite large. Ponsonby - City - Sandringham.
Its not the middle of the city but outskirts (No tall apartments blocking these places).

zocster and tonyhughes are right - more info would help:

What sort of framerate do you want to do?
What level of compression are you happy with?
Do you need live, streaming video from each site?

320x240 is still quite a high resolution if you want decent fps or low compression.

I did a quick/rough calculate - 2x cameras @ 320x240/10FPS/H.264 @ 160kbit/s for one month could be up to 100GB of net traffic per site. That would probably require full speed upstream ADSL. At the cheapest you would pay $100 p/m for that kind of usage on ADSL.

If you don't need live video, maybe you could install a PVR at each site and remotely stream video on demand. It might work out cheaper. Depends on your use case I guess.

Hmm looking at your requirement I do not think that you can 'split' one connection for the locations you mentioned. You would need dedicated connections per location, I would say a naked dsl would be sufficient.

Even tho Woosh does suck quite hard, you can have multiple Woosh modems all "dialed" in over the IPWireless network with the same username and password, just so long as you don't go over your cap.. however where dedicated speed is required (like streaming video) I would avoid Woosh like the plague!

Thanks for all the help. I think i will be getting a connection at every different location. It seems to be the best option.
