I'm currently with Orcon LLU/ADSL2+. I noticed that if I delete my username and password from my router (or put garbage in those fields), the internet still connects fine.

I thought maybe the router was lying to me and retaining the settings somehow, so I did a hard factory reset and sure enough it connects with no login/password.

The internet usage is still being logged against my orcon account even though I have no username/password defined. Perhaps the need for a username/password on the LLU network is only secondary?

My router is a D-Link DSL-2740B. This isn't an issue obviously but is that normal behaviour?

I'm actually changing off Orcon Purple+ to Xnet Fusion (due to the poor Orcon international performance), will be interesting to see if it is the same scenario.

If you are connected with Orcon for ADSL, but dont use your login details, then yes, you can still go online.
But its like dial up and you are limited with what services are actually available.

Its a bit stupid, how are you suppose to tell if youre using the wrong password ?

xpd - that is not correct.

On our own Orcon+ (LLU) network we use port based authentication. That means that your account is tied to your physical line, so we assume that if you have put a router on the end of it then it must be you. Whether you put in your un/pw or not you will be able to surf at full speed.

On our broadband products based on wholesale products we still use standard un/pw authentication. Without your username and password correctly in your router your connection will not work.

Hope that clarifies things.

Well, when I tried it at a customers about 6 months ago, they were getting shocking speed and having problems accessing certain ports etc... I called Orcon and thats what I got told.
Reset the password, entered it all into the router and bang, back on full speed etc.

And I came across it a couple times after that also, but knew to put in the right details and off it went.

Ahh, that's pretty cool, must help a lot for IT illiterate people.
I hope to eventually return to Orcon, once I read on these forums that everyone is happy. Good luck.
