Just curious if anyone here has any thoughts on this...

Since the big storm last week our ADSL connection on Waiheke has become very unstable.  Prior to the storm the link would never go down. I would routinely check and it would have an uptime counter that would be 20-45 days at a time (usually we don't go longer than that without some kind of interruption to the power).

Since last weeks big storm we were dropping constantly.  There was no noise on the line though.  I decided to replace the master filter because it was nearly 10 years old and I rechecked all of the wiring all the way back to the demarcation box.  No issues, no water ingress, no static or noise on the lines.  I've also replaced with a brand new broadcom chipset modem.  The drops are not happening as frequently, but still at least getting 3 of them a day.

I then heard a report from a neighboring business that they had to replace all their ADSL filters because they all got fried in the storm.  This struck me as a bit of a surprise so I'm wondering could something have happened all the way back at the cabinet during the storm and maybe the linecards are damaged?  Is there anyway to tell if that is happening? How good are those linecards and Chorus at self-reporting faults and failures? Especially if they are intermittent in nature?

Log a fault with your ISP - most likely physical damage to an aerial cable, but could be a linecard.

Yeah I have the fault logged early this week and Chorus had a reported fix time for Thursday but I keep getting texts with the fix time changing further and further out.  Now they aren't due until the evening of the 24th.

How long are the drops for? Chorus will be putting complete outages ahead of some connections dropping a few times a day

After the storm. Seems like a moisture issue somewhere. How are the neighbours? If they seem ok, its likely to be at or in or near your premises.

OK after nearly two weeks they seem to have finally gotten someone out and done some work on the line.  My connection has managed to hold for more than 18 hours.

However, I've lost a little over a mbps in sync speeds?  I think DLM is penalizing me now :(
