Effective 14 November 2018, we will be grandfathering BOOST VDSL. BOOST VDSL will also be withdrawn from our suite of products one year from today, on 14 June 2019.

What does it mean?

From 14 November 2018, you will not be able to order the BOOST VDSL service for new connections or for changes of address.

Standard Consumer VDSL remains available and it will not be grandfathered. This change is an ideal opportunity for you to discuss better broadband services with your customers.

However if you wish to migrate customers to Consumer VDSL, we will proactively support you in bulk migrations.

Atlast, Boost VDSL as a product has always been so weird in the market...

I've never understood the difference - did it force a master splitter install or something like that? Seen a few pre-qual checked that listed Boost VDSL as being available and was always a bit confused by what it even was haha.

a usecases exists for it, but realistically that usecase is kinda negated by the fact that chorus's standard VDSL product just simply was a better option in 99% of cases.

yep. there are weird caluses in it too though.

like you can't log a fault for a drop of speed that's above 15mbit... so it's like, ok. so 15/5 or... whatever?

I think it’s a mistake they are dropping it. Say goodbye to free install on VDSL without a 24 month contract for your ISP to recover the $150-$250 install fee.

Chorus were going to look at something along the lines of shaping or allocating less bandwidth for normal VDSL but there was such a huge push back from other ISPs and ComCom started looking into it, so that they scraped the idea.

The logic was Boost was the Premium VDSL product.

They are now regulated to ensure all fibre fed ADSL2+ (EUBA) and VDSL aren't congested, DSLAMs can't be over 95% utilisation for 5 or 15min period.

Reports are found here https://sp.chorus.co.nz/sla-reports/121 and are released each month

Does not apply to legacy ADSL1 / BUBA (Conklin / ASAM) or eDMR cabinets ISAMs which offer ADSL 2+ (EUBA) and sometimes VDSL.

It was clear at that stage Boost VDSL was rather pointless.

They are cleaning up and simplifying there product portfolio, it makes sense along with there automation plans, they are doing huge upgrades in the back end systems at the moment.

HSNS Premium Fibre and HSNS Lite Fibre will go at some stage, the replacement product Bitstream 4 is in testing at this stage.

Not sure what will happen with HSNS Lite Copper (SHDSL)

It won't be long until they have a handful of products which have a number of bandwidth variants.

Hmm... the timing...

Assuming this doesn't include the dumb clauses that aren't really relevant and is about the things that matter as implied (Provisioning and resolution) seems like a far more positive thing :)

Right off the bat - I would be interested in having multiple VLAN's so I could have separate connections to my ISP (Inspire) and my VoIP provider (2talk). Both of them are Chorus RSP's so I think this could be quite doable.

I don't think multiple VLANs are likely, due to the whole way ADSL 2+ and VDSL network works. It is all delivered as a QinQ VLAN at the handover, that would likely mean you need to triple tag it which is a whole other can of worms, a lot of hardware can't handle that.

Even if it was possible it could only go back to 1 RSP.

There is HSNS Copper of you really want that kind of thing, but again it can only go back to 1 RSP.

Trying to share a single connection with 2 ISPs would be a support nightmare.

I assume you can't get UFB today? BS3 and BS4 does multiple VLANs nicely.

TBH, this usecase makes no sense to me..

unless your trying to say you would like multiple RSP's over the same link? in which case, that will never be so and would be utterly flawed due to the way the DSL products actually work at Layer 1.

Multiple VLANs over a connection are supported now - effectively this gives you QinQinQ.

Having these individual VLANs go back to different RSP is a solution that would be completely impossible to engineer in any way that would comply with MEF or really any standards.

If you want multiple connection like that you need to purchase two internet connections.
