Hello Everyone

Long time reader, first time poster.

Im moving house soon and taking advantage to look for a different ISP to see if I can get a better deal.
Currently on BigPipe basic fiber plan (100 down 20 up $79/month)

Was looking at going to their best plan (700-900 down 400-500 up, $130/month)
But had a shop around and found that My Republic has a better deal (950 down 500 up, $105/pm)

However jumping on here I see a nice mix of reviews about MR, some of which I agree with (dodgy stats on their website)

So coming here for advice.
Wanting a decent fiber connection, for a decent price.
Need a static IP
No quota or rate limiting (if possible)
no or short contract (renting the house so dont want to have to pay a ridiculous break early fee when we leave)

am I best to stay with BigPipe and pay the little extra for a service I already am happy with
Risk the MR due to different opinions on here
or is there someone else who has a similar or better deal?

Don't go to MyRepublic. Heck, even ex-staff have called them out on shoddy behaviour and their cheap network.

Go with 2degrees or Voyager. Also read the blog post in my signature. Price is not everything and never go for the cheapest plan.

Further research
2Deg does 900/400 for $120/pm ($10 static ip fee added)

Voyager 950/450 $130/pm (Cant find anything about static ip unless you go business plan)

2 deg seems to be pretty good at what im looking for

Voyager +1 :) I'm not on fiber (VDSL) but had extremely few issues with them, and the times I have called with an issue, I've received great help and info.

I've been with Voyager for a few months now, and have been very happy with them. They've been very fast to reply to emails, and have been great overall so far.

i would also look at Stuff fibre , i have been with Stuff for 4 months having switched from 2D and i cant tell the difference, i have never contacted them in the 4 months and they have just dropped there boost from $30 to $20 a month which makes the top speed plan $110 a month and the speeds are good and remember to go through the compare broadband prices sites to get some good deals , i am paying only $60 a month for the full Gig speed fibre plan after going through one of them.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

just had a look at Stuff and you can get full speed fibre for $70 a month for 3 months no contract.

Just chucking a +1 for Voyager in here.

I work for another ISP, but any clients we don't take are referred to Voyager and they're about the only provider we've never had a problem with.

Over promising and under delivering is the usual thing, as with a lot of ISP's.

I think they started off really well, but as time went on and the customer base grew, they didnt upgrade to match the demand, so the network was saturated and caused poor performance for users.

Reminds me of dialup ISP strip.net in Wellington in the late 90s. They started out great too, gave Xtra a real run for their money, but (from memory) they never upgraded anything and eventually just turned to crap. I had a friend who was with them at the time this was happening and he ended up changing to Paradise (which also eventually went downhill, then completely disappeared).

That advise depends on your personal circumstances. For a lot of people price is important. For me I have stuck with VF Fibre X 200/20 which has been very reliable over the last couple of years and international speeds now mirror national speeds. All this for around $30-$40/month cheaper than UFB. You have to be in a VF cable area to get it tho.
