Just received:

Chorus has deployed Nokia's VDSL2 vectoring technology to deliver improved broadband access to users across New Zealand. The deployment has enabled Chorus to quickly enhance its network and leverage existing 'last mile' copper connections to deliver broadband speeds up to 130Mbps to residential and business customers.

VDSL2 vectoring is a noise-cancelling technology that removes the interference created between multiple lines in copper cable, allowing operators to cost-effectively and efficiently deliver ultra-broadband services over existing copper networks. With Nokia's VDSL2 vectoring technology, Chorus can better address growing broadband consumption in areas where Chorus fiber is yet to be built or in rural areas outside the national ultra-fast fiber coverage area. VDSL vectoring technology provides the fast, sustained broadband speeds essential for delivering superior TV and online experiences.

Martin Sharrock, Head of Network Technology at Chorus, said: "Ensuring our customers receive the fastest possible, congestion-free broadband experience is a priority for Chorus. Nokia's VDSL vectoring is a vital technology to ensure that those yet to connect to Chorus' ultra-fast fiber network can experience the best broadband experience. Vectoring has improved average VDSL downstream speeds by over 40 percent and upstream speeds by over 30 percent. This is especially important for rural New Zealand where fiber to the home has not yet been planned. VDSL vectoring ensures the best possible speed on existing copper lines and Chorus' congestion-free network policy maintains that speed and performance even during the busiest times of the day."

Federico Guillén, president of Nokia Fixed Networks, said: "Nokia's copper solution with vectoring technology compliments Chorus' fiber roll-out and provides another way to deliver significantly higher speeds that enhance the way customers experience digital content. As the industry leader in copper networks, we're excited to help Chorus modernize its existing infrastructure and provide the foundation needed to ensure New Zealand remains one of the most advanced broadband nations in the world."

a little delayed on that press release?

still love to see that zero touch turned off and switched to full vectored ;)

All in all though, going to vectoring cards was certainly a cost to chorus, but quite worthwhile overall.

particularly @BMarquis being that he's also been very active here, Been quite an asset for keeping the community informed :)

Now it's up to the wonderful? field techs to keep the network up to scratch and proactive maintenance continues!

Just need some new technology now to extend the reach and stop those on perfectly good ADSL2+ 2km from exchange / cabinet switching to wireless. 1Mbps upload is just not enough these days :(

Unfortunately even VDSL2-LR Doesnt help with the 1mbps upstream.
It also doesn't have much of a significant benefit in the downstream direction other than allowing vectoring for those longer lines.

now if only chorus did reasonable priced VDSL bonding and phantom mode, that would help the longer lines!

Not sure if this decent increse in speed on the dsl connection is these changes, or that 4 or 5 neighbours are gone from the copper now. This is almost an acceptable connection.

Looks more like whatever the fault was finally got resolved, or you got switched to a better pair.

Your on an ikanos card, they don't vector.

It's never been this good, even during powercuts.

Im only keeping the DSL till chorus are not in and out of the pit and messing around up the poles almost every day like at the moment. Its already seen me thru one night of no fiber when they left something unfinished. And someone nearby had an optical light go red.

Do they mix cards in cabinets? Would other cards doing vectoring help with mine? Is there any logic about all the customers on one cable being on one card so that the vectoring knows everything that is happening in the bundle or do they just plug them in to whatever is free?

Considering the drop in atteuation, it's not a card change.

You are on an ikanos card in all of those shots.

It looks very much to me like an issue has been fixed. it could very well be an issue that wasn't detected for a long time but then picked up on proactive monitoring and resolved.

Your in a chorus fibre area, Vectored cards are not at all in play.

There could be a reduction in crosstalk, but not nearly that much i'm sure!

Any ideas where this is initially being rolled out. I contacted Orcon recently to try and get my ADSL2 connection upgraded to VDSL2 and they say I'm still to far away from the cabinet. Download is about 16M but upload is what I'm really after for work.

I posted a table awhile back...

But I'm tentive to do the same. It was heavily misunderstood by a few that created problems :/

Dm me your address or cabinet and I'll check.
If your in a chorus fibre area.... You won't have it.

Just be aware that VDSL Vectoring doesn't increase the reach of VDSL.  at 16mbps on ADSL you are unlikely to see an increase in speed with VDSL and, if you do happen to be on a vectored cabinet, you are extemely unlikely to see any increase with Vectoring.
We also don't vector upstream, so there are no gains upstream between VDSL2 and Vectoring.

Looks like Hio77 is on to it and will check for you.

So if my connection is 70/30, can I tell from this what card I have and whether vectoring will improve my connection?

Does Chorus ever change a card? It would be hella nice to get from 70 to 130, esp since UFB isn't due till after the RWC next year.

If you are in a Chorus UFB area, you will not get vectoring.
That's also why you are on one of the 70mbps capped cards, there is no benefit in us spending the $ swapping them out.

When you say Chorus UFB Area, I don't have UFB in my area as yet?
