Chorus announced a new ONT model - the Nokia G-140W-C. Rollout startis in March. This ONT has WiFi hardware and could also double as the router (if Chorus enables this feature). You can switch off the flashing lights if they're too distracting. It only has one ATA voice port though.

Initally when this was presented, the ONT was mounted vertically with the antenna sticking out like a handle.

my first comment to @BMaquris was, is that to encourage it to be pulled off the wall by toddlers!

The build in wireless is quite an interesting prop to market.

i could see it used in a few places, But it's also a bit of an odd one to manage etc.

Being that many ONT installs are say, basements in MDU's, Cabinets in Prebuilds etc.. in those cases it would absolutely be a nono.

Maybe as a low cost provider option?

Whenn you think about it, Everything changes... troubleshooting, customer experience, customer interaction, replaceability etc.

The virtual residential gateway (RGW) will be an interesting on as well. does the customer get a login to manage their side of the RGW or will it all be at RSP level.

You would assume the provider could probably build configuration options in to their self-service portal that just talk to Chorus API's. About the only thing you would want to do is set SSID and password I would of thought.

Then what would be quite cool was an option to say "use the chorus box" or "i have my own router", and it configures the ONT back to layer 2 device.

Enable and UFF use Huawei Core and ONT's and as far as I know have not been told to stop it.

The dude at Chorus who came up with the idea of tacking "ruggedised microduct" to fences said that b/g will be totally sweet.

Chorus have never used Huawei - their current kit both OLU and ONT is Alcatel Lucent (which is now Nokia after the merger / puchase)

RSP to the ONT is ACS based, not Chorus API's.

I'd suspect Chorus API's would be a heck of a lot easier than building an ACS platform for smaller providers.. Although there are plenty of tools out there.
