Hi guys, dumb question my fibre just went down on Vodafone, how do I tell what lights to check on a nokia ONT?. I checked the chrous outage site wasn't anything on there. I restarted ONT and it's just come back up. Is it usual for fibre to cut out like that or is it weather related?. It's pelting down in Upper Hutt

Optical should not be red. If it is, there's a fault. If everything is normal, most lights will be green.

Dodgy design as usual, discriminating against Caucasian males.
Between 12% and 20% of white (Caucasian) males have some degree - varying from a little to complete - colour blindness. One thing we all have is at least some degree of red/green colour discrimination difficulty.

"What colour is the 'Optical' light on your ONT?"
"It's on and it looks fairly pretty much about the same as the others" is actually as helpful as the user can be.

Since there is obviously a signal, the ONT manufacturer cheaps out by having a single multi-colour red/green LED instead of two, one labelled "Op" and the other labelled "Fault". They could even make them red & green, but it's the non-colour cue that matters.
Still we're only white blokes and only a small proportion of them, so ...

Oh God!!!! How on earth will us white males ever get ahead in society with such terrible discrimination!?!!

Seriously OP... the optical light is BRIGHT RED if there is a fault. Otherwise it is a clear green.

Thanks just moved to Fibre vdsl modem errors in the past were either no lights showing or no solid lights. How am I supposed to know ONT faults with no modem or experience with an ONT before. I now know thanks

The ONT is now effectively your modem. What was your VDSL modem now becomes just a router between your ONT and your computer.

I am surprised that the fibre installers did not supply you with a quick guide to the ONT... anyway the link to the Chorus guide I posted earlier should have helped fill in the gaps.

No he was in such a rush to get out of the house he was mad I asked him to run the wire through a precut hole I made instead of drilling through my carpet:). The guide you provided is excellent thank you very much
