I have ordered upgrade to my 200/20 fibre to 900/400

Will I even notice any difference?

Is it given any better priority and 200/40?

Will gaming see any benefit?

Or is it simply I can download more at a time?

when uploading files you will likely notice it more.

For Game downloads you will most likely also feel it.

Latency, User experience etc there is next to Zero usecases that you would notice.

I've seen folk notice far more User experience improvements from moving from Router that poorly do gbit to ones that work well.

I only mention latency as at 20mbit your still within the realm of where Congesting upstream or bufferbloat is readily obtained . Again though, Totally depends on you situation!

Literally the only thing you're changing is the upload speed and the download speed, your ISP, your routing, your ping - everything else will be the same.

So unsurprisingly, you will notice the change most if you do a lot of uploading/downloading of large files.

We recently upped our plan to 1G - and after changing out our central switch so that it can handle the 1G speeds (most older ones are limited to 100mbs) we've found that our photo backups and my wife's working files take far less time to upload - most are blink and you miss it type stuff now whereas before you'd be twiddling thumbs waiting.

Downloads are similar - game/movie downloads are significantly faster - seconds where it was previously minutes.

Best example I can think of recently was phone updates - I had maybe 20 or so on my backup phone - these downloaded in less than 10 seconds - the install time for each app took longer.

So you will notice it, but it's up to you whether those use cases are worth the extra cost.

Wether you notice will also depend on your router and Wi-fi. Its not at all given that either will be able to handle the speed, neither that any of your computers/smart phones or tablets will be able to utilise the full speed.

Well.. I have upgrade.. my pfsense router is giving me 950/450

And yes the only thing I notice is speed.. and a massive increase in data usage.. I am now using 100gb a day

How do you use 100GB a day?! I work from home a fair bit, we watch a little streaming TV, usually use 80 - 200GB per month.

Easy - Netflix, Home Server hosting / downloading media, backups, app / game updates, OS updates etc. Power users can use a fair bit.

I've done one month at 11TB used (mostly offpeak) due to my server processing a backup. Most months I use ~2-3TB.

I remember a user on here a few years back who was using on average 40TB per month and got kicked from a few ISP's. Now, I really have no clue how he could have used that much without doing something incredibly dodgy. I schedule heavy things such as uploads or server backups overnight if I can.
