For those of you living out in the wop-wops, how's the Internet holding up for you during the lock down?

Particularly in the semi-rural urban fringes which will now, if the stereotype is be believed, be full of townies trying to home work from their lifestyle blocks.

Can RBI and ADSL cope?

Personally, I've found my 9mbit ADSL connection surprisingly acceptable so far.

Even manged a Microsoft Teams meeting with two kids on separate Google Hangouts "virtual Classroom" video chats at the same time.

We’re on Vodafone RBI and not very good. The DNS issue yesterday was temporary but today I can’t access multiple sites that are work related and yet Spark connects to each of them from the same device. At least family browsing is mostly ok so the mobile data use on Spark is a bit more manageable but not possible longer term. In the Voda forum there is mention of VPN issues and I suspect might be related and worrying aspect there was hint no fix is planned until after Level 4.

Fine for browsing on WISP but last night streaming from Oz was impossible. Overall somewhat worse, but that is relative. Still pretty good for most sites, especially in NZ. We usually get 29 Mbps down on speed tests to NZ server.

Good here. Semi-rural will normally be on a cabinet supplied by fibre so shouldn’t be too much difference.

On rbi wireless here. Noticed a couple of slow periods but overall performinh about as it usually does.

We are rural and have a connection with a local WISP Ezykonect.
So far everything is working great.
Connection is approx 20/5 and no issues with having 6 people in the house and quite often all doing our own thing online on different devices.

Spark 4G Rural holding up well, steady 50/25 though usually got around 80/50 beforehand. Can't complain

I'm getting 52/14.5Mbps on Skinny Wireless Broadband (in a small beach town), and my parents who are on Spark Rural Wireless (rural Manawatu) are getting 30/43Mbps. Not as nice as the usual 600/500Mpbs at home, but I haven't had any issues, and I don't believe the parents have either. Just hoping we'll be able to renew our plans once they've run out.

Was getting consistant 35-40Mbps Down & Up on 2degrees 4G RBI for past few weeks since install until they announced unlimited datacaps just before the lockdown.

Now i'm getting around 3-9Mbps Down & 30-35 Up in the morning and down to 0.9-1.5Mbps Down & 20-35Mbps Up from mid-day until late evening.

Semi-rural West Auckland 30 mins from city centre. All we can get is ADSL2, no VDSL, no RBI coverage, no fibre now or future, a thin wisp of mobile data coverage from 2Degrees that's off & on.

On a good day we get 5mbps over ADSL. Lately it has been down to 2-3mbps in the evenings, and with 5 people in the house I have to get them all to stop streaming when I work from home.

I'm really jealous of you guys.

Your distance from the centre of a city has no bearing as to what services you'll have available.

VDSL connected and no real change with the exception of crappy Netflix on Wednesday night. I think that may have been before 2Degrees upped the trans-Tasman bandwidth as it's been fine since then.

I suspect that the real question is how are the wireless connections going? Hopefully they all do the right thing and take off the bandwidth caps for fixed wireless connections.
