Hey,

So in our house we watch a fair bit of online tv, I work from home, etc. and we go through about 4-500GB a month, if that. Granted there’s only two or three of us in the house but still...

I see some people mentioning much higher internet usage. Some use 10TB a month. I saw someone on here mention they use 2-3TB a day and I’m just curious, what are you doing?

A lot of streaming (wife works from home so has TV on via Xbox/PC), ditto with kids and game updates etc.

I honestly don't know what my current stats would be like now since I've shifted off a lot of services from the home server to 3rd party. And because SNMP is broken on my router, I can't really do a decent monitor session to find out.

(PS: Wanted - a decent router that does VoiP, SNMP AND actually saves its config and dosent reset itself every few days. ;) )

There are users that setup scripts to run speedtests to multiple servers every few minutes. In fact recently I came across someone that setup speedtests to run _continuously_, as in every 24 seconds approx

There are also users that simply setup bittorrent to download every TV show//movie from their favourite tracker and upload them for a set period of time with no intention of actually watching the shows themselves - then after a few days or a week the files are automatically deleted.

Personally I wish electricity was flat rate so I could run the air conditioner 24/7 to keep the house cool during summer but have a fan heater under my desk to keep my feet warm since I don't like wearing socks.

We use about 1.5 TB - 2 TB/month. Streaming in HD/UHD when available, plus pretty much stopped using DVB-T and favour the Vodafone TV Gen 2 (which streams Freeview channels with catchup option). Work from home (both me and wife). Backups (to OneDrive and Bacblaze).

250GB - 750GB per month, typical about 350GB. Working remotely 3-4 days a week in IT, lots of video meetings, a little bit of streaming maybe a couple of hours a day max, otherwise just standard corporate stuff but intensive use of cloud computing so online a lot. The usage went up about 100GB per month when I started working remotely.

1 Gamer/streamer/part-time Graphic Artist (13 y/o)

2 adults occasional streaming/social media and 1 of us WFH (me)

1 15yo streaming/occasional gaming/social media

We use around 1.2-1.5GB a month.

When threads like this come up I am always impressed at how much some people manage to use. I normally only go through about 60Gb a month!

I use 10tb a month as:

1) I work from home - a bunch of my use comes from that.
2) I have a couple of servers running here hosting a few things.
3) I also run a VPN to my parents who use my NAS over it. My NAS mirrors to Crashplan.
4) I also have Plex running for sharing my own personal media library.

We also stream in 4K - my partner does quite a bit of digital art. Things like Reddit, TikTok etc use a fair bit too. I'm always streaming YouTube. It all adds up.

I remember being on 5GB plan with Orcon and surviving.... :) Then got given 1TB of data a month for a year, worked out if I was transferring data non-stop that whole time, I'd only be able to hit about 600GB a month ....

I'm much the same as @michaelmurphy with my usage. A bunch of services running in the cupboard. VOD and streaming every day/night. Plex server for personal media. Oh and every time I launch MS Flight Sim 2020 it seems to need another bloody 25GB update.
