I'm contemplating getting hyperfibre but looking at the design of/location of ports on the Hyperfibre ONT (https://www.chorus.co.nz/help/ont/hyperfibre-type-110#check-connections) how is it mounted in their home distributor box - my current (Type 100) ONT is perfectly mounted there with wires/cables neatly arranged.

Keen to understand what are people doing?

We are waiting on the supply of the bus-sized one to run out so they start installing smaller ones.

If chorus were to supply the mountable small one now, I would probably put an order thru @Quic for 2/2 hyperfibre tomorrow.

The new Zyxel ONT's are coming soon. The Zyxel PX5301 GPON ONT is available within the next few weeks depending where you are.

The Zyxel PM7507 XGS-PON ONT for Hyperfibre is scheduled to be available in November or December.

I am also holding out for the new Hyperfibre ONT so it can be wall mounted.

Looks like you are not the only one and Chorus has already covered this.

Bitsream 3 or Bitstream 4 are the services you will need for SFP.

Or something like this if you are intending to connect a Mikrotik router 10G SFP+ port to the Hyperfibre ONT:

Thanks for that information, future problem how to request this version when it does become available - so I don't get the old stock/previous crappy version.

I will just book my install once they say they can do it and if the tech turns up dragging the large one out of the van I will send them on their way.

Ask the ISP to request this in the order else if you just send the tech away the ISP may get charged for this and pass this charge onto you.

I would be totally clear with them about it. I actually will need to sort out getting the fibre to where I want the ONT to go in the comms cupboard under the stairs before the install can happen, but even when it gets close to December I am not confident to just book an install on December 11th and assume that I would get the new ONT, and I am hoping that date comes forward if their existing ONT supply gets used up.

There is no (and will not be a) way to request that.

new ONTs being used are dependant on techs/service companies consuming their (and our) stock of the current device.

Good luck with that. As above, you can't specify/request which ONT gets installed, otherwise people would be putting in endless niche requests for specific ONT's that couldn't be fulfilled.

Available with Bitstream 3 service (and comes with Bitstream3 pricing)

if everyone is being a holdout for the old ONTs then the old ones will take longer to deplete stock sure I want to change out my ONT with the ghastly aerials on it, but I can't just have one because I want one

Only place blame for the low uptake of hyperfibre is chorus who are clinging on to that sunk cost with the battleship ONTs. They're not going to be able to say its a roaring success of a product till they get some movement with the sensible ONTs.

Sorry.... but... Having 2, 4 and 8gbps symmetrical services available as residential offers in NZ (the first in the southern hemisphere using XGSPON) is definitely a roaring success!

yep, I've read a few users here preferring to not want the currently-available ONT, but there is a far greater customer base who seem quite happy to use the current ONT.
We've taken the physical dimension feedback on board when selecting the new ONT. Unfortunately that doesn’t mean we're going to throw perfectly good devices into the e-waste.

Thanks I didn't think it would be possible; suggestion - it would be cool if one day in the near/distant future we could be informed that only the new ONTs are being deployed so that I can get my hyperfibre order placed (without the risk of getting the current one - due to space issues).
