I have a small problem at another house, so diagnosing etc will be slow and painful here.

Just signed up to snap. Got everything I need there.
Have got a DrayTek Vigor120.

I can get the DSL to sync for around 30 seconds, before it drops. Snap see that I have connected, and then see me dissapear.

There are four phone jacks that I have found in this house, all four have the same problem. Both with and without filters.

A normal phone works on all jacks, with and without filters. There is no crackling etc etc

I am just about to try the DrayTek at my home, and will post the results.

In the mean time, ideas etc please. I have still yet to go under the house and find where the line comes in etc, so I am not sure what the cabling is like at this stage.

From what I remember, I get an noise margin of around 12db and attenuation of 32db. The sync rates are around the 8mbit down and 0.9mbit up.

Ok, I have just tested the DrayTek on my xtra line, and it has the same problems. All I changed was the username so that I could connect it here.

Any ideas, apart from hard reset and try again?

The Draytek routers have several builds of firmware. Download the variants from here:
ftp://ftp.draytek.com/Vigor120/Firmware/V3.2.2/

Just a case of trying each variant to see what best fits.

And is that ISP specific? I sure hope not.
I would have assumed that it would work fine the with firmware on the unit, as it came with a quickstart guide explaining how to connect it to a TNZ wholesaled ADSL connection.

Kind off, think it's more to do with the various DSLAM options out there. Other possibility is that you do have a faulty unit - but do try the other firmware first.

+1.  Try a firmware upgrade, if that doesn't work return the unit as faulty.

FYI I'm with Snap, on a Draytek Vigor2700 running firmware 2.7.3.3_1411301

Ok, I am going to test all of the firmwares, and will let you know how I get on.

The site to get firmware for New Zealand is actually best done through draytek.com.au as per snappernet.

EDIT

Tried the available 3.2.2 for the Vigor120, which seems to be the only one.

332201 - no 2+ gdmt conected
310811 - no 2+ gdmt conected
310801 - no 2+ gdmt conected
3211201 - no 2+ gdmt conected
321311 - no 2+ gdmt conected (original)

So basically the Vigor120 will not work on my exchange. After talking to Richard at Snappernet again, I will be sending him my logs etc for Australia to have a look at.

Better - they do PPPoA to PPPoE bridging. So set it in this mode, plug into WAN on 2nd router, select PPPoE on the 2nd router and enter ISP details there.

I've also just picked up a vigor 120, and I've had the same issue with ADSL2+. g.dmt is no problem, but 2+ will synch for a few seconds and then drop off. The modem originally had 3.2.0 321311 firmware I think, and I've also tried all of the 3.2.2 varieties with no luck. A thomson st536v6 can maintain a stable 2+ connection on my line. I'm with xtra, on an alcatel ISAM (not certain of the line card + firmware). I'm pretty sure I'll be taking it back for a refund rather than waiting for a fix (though I'm sure draytek will get around to it). It's a shame since it looks to be a very nice modem in all other regards. This may be why it doesn't yet have a telepermit?

I noticed something on one of draytek's knowledgebase articles here:
http://support.draytek.net.au/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=22
the australian settings use multimode, but the NZ ones use g.dmt...

That must be wrong, as g.dmt is just forcing it to adsl1 speeds.

that's what I mean though - maybe it was known there's an issue using adsl2+ here. Not that it really matters anyway. Hopefully Draytek support will get back to me this friday after contacting Infineon to find out about compatibility issues with the line card. Their Australian support seems to be very good, which is always encouraging.

Keep us updated considering getting one to play with, but it would be a waste of time if ADSL2+ was flakey.

There's no fix available right now, but I'll make a post as soon as new firmware is out.

Just to let everyone know that this issue was resolved some time ago via firmware so any new purchases are not affected & any existing installations can be upgraded at no cost. Firmware is available at Draytek Australian website.
