Compass Broadband and voice is available here where I live in Rotorua.

Does anyone know of any technical reasons why I shouldn't dump:
Telecom landline @ $47.55 per month
My Woosh broadband plan @ $39.95 per month
in favour of a Compass wireless voice and boadband connection at 2/3 of the cost?

Is there something I'm missing? It's a big move to kick your landline when it's all you've known for 50 years!

I have a Brother-in-Law who uses Compass Wireless and Skype works over it no problem at all. They don't use Compass Voice as such, but if Skype works, there shouldn't be any problem with other VoIP services such as Compass Voice.

Regarding "kicking your landline", we did this 3 years ago, and have never looked back. We use Kordia's Extend wireless service for our broadband, and use WorldxChange's VFX service to provide our phone. VFX is similar in concept to Compass Voice.

I would suggest running Compass Voice and your landline in parallel for a few months just to see how it goes. Then if you decide that your landline is redundant, you can take the following steps:

1) Port your landline number to Compass Voice

2) Snip the wires where Telecom's landline enters your house and connect your Compass Voice adaptor into any handy phone outlet

3) Then you will have phone service at all outlets in your house, just the way your Telecom line used to do, but far cheaper!

Thanks Grant. That gives me some more confidence although I think we'll have to go "cold turkey' as there are hefty penalties for terminating before the 24 month initial term is up.
We SHOULD be fine, as we can see the relevant comms tower from the window, about 10 kms away.
