Hi,

I got a friend visit NZ from 2nd July for roughly 2 years and he asked to get him a mobile broadband,

I just checked Vodafone and Telecom, it seems that Telecom is usually cost $15/month more and also $99 for their Sierra USB stick while Vodafone offer black vodem stick free with 24month contract

now I wonder, is it worth to take Telecom if he up for the speed? or the speed would be just same and Telecom just charging us more?

For all that I have experienced myself - and read around - the Telecom mobile speed is superior to what Vodafone is currently offering.

If he's here for two years then consider a plan. Not sure he'll be able to get a contract (and cheaper plans) since he's a new resident, but certainly a plan would be more interesting.

However if he's going to have a fixed residence you might as well investigate fixed broadband - much cheaper and reliable than mobile broadband.

Depending on how much data he is likely to use I believe the cheapest option is to go with Telecom prepaid. If you get the top up bonus then it works out much cheaper than other plans, but I think the largest plan available on prepaid is 0.5GB/month.

anyone confirm this?

Thank you guys! I'll suggest him to have Telecom mobile broadband prepay plan.
BTW there are two USB sticks available to Telecom, two different price but looks same to me, can't find any tech specs.. what are the difference?

I thought you could get all mobile broadband plans on prepaid? This page seems to suggest so.

Correct, all the way upto the 3GB plan.
