I know this may sound a bit dumb but I know you can have wireless internet for your laptop but can the same be done for a PC and what is required?

a wireless PCI or wireless USB adaptor required to connect your desktop to wireless network.

Is this because you don't have broadband via your phone line at home?

Or maybe your computer isn't near a phone socket?

Can you tell us a little more about your situation?

Depending on your problem there are some good options available.

Also tell us about your computer: How old? Is it a Mac? What Version of Windows?

Interests: HTPC, Web App authoring.

Hi Thanks Just curious if it could be done and my computer is fairly new runnng broadband just a long way from the phone socket

yes it can be done, you just need a wifi reciever thingy. something like this

however, I would recommend that you do one of two things instead if possible

1) run a network cable through your walls/roof/floor if possible. you will get better speeds and more reliable connection that wifi
or
2) call up telecom and get them to come and and install a spliter and jack point where you want your computer to be.

Do you have a wireless modem? If so, as mentioned above, buy a USB wifi stick and slot it into your USB slot on your PC.

If you don't have a wireless option, get a Telecom technician to install another jack point for you, just like NonprayingMantis said.
