I am after a broadband connection that offers either free national or free of peak traffic - ideally as a Naked service but I will get a phone line if I have to.

I need a static IP address.

But it seems almost no one does free national traffic any more

Free off peak - Slingshot or Xnet

Where are you located? There are plenty of options if you're in the Wgtn CBD over fibre or a few options over TCL cable if you're in an area where it's available.

World Xchange (Xnet) allow static ip's also.. for a cost $9.95 exc gst a month. Luckily its works expense :)

Or you can get pretty much the same thing for free with Slingshot if you don't disconnect for more than ~12 hours per day.

You can stay on TCL cable and move to somebody like xtreme networks who offer service over cable. Whether or not you're happy paying their pricing is another question entirely - it's a product aimed at a slightly different market.

I am currently paying $149 for 80Gb + extra Gb and excess charges. as silly as it sounds I am actually considering putting in a 2nd internet connection. Something like the Slingshot Just broadband(I just wish SNAP would hurry up and release their new plans so I can compare). And keeping the telstra cable on the 50gb for the time critical stuff.

I would prefer free NZ traffic 24/7 rather then free off peak - but either could be an option.

I dont really want to give up cable because to be honest it is alot more reliable then DSL also all are phones are voip too. But to be honest I feeling a bit shafted by telstra at the moment All I have had from them in the last 3 years is a $10 price INCREASE, those on the 80GB plan missed out completly on their latest upgrade. and their is NO suitable higher plan to upgrade too.

There are also others in the house hold that it i tempting to put on a plan where if they use too much its too bad your internet will be slow but no excess charges. But we can NOT have our internet that slow.

We also use quite a bit of off peak NZ based non speed critical traffic.

xtreme networks charges are insanity.....

if lets say 50% of our traffic is NZ based (50gb) the cost for 2mbit cable with them would be $565/month. on my current plan I would get 10mbit cable with 356GB traffic
