Anyone know of any providers offering vdsl2 connections? We're literally across the road from an exchange that supports it and currently sync at ~22000/1200 on adsl2+

Well, 2 years after we initially thought it would be rolled out....

It's definitely good news, especially around the fact that the amount of dedicated bandwidth per connection is going up. Only problem is it doesn't sound like many retail providers are interested with neither Orcon nor Vodafone looking to provide it as a service. I don't even think Orcon provides ADSL2 on Telecom Wholesale even if the line card is there and you are connected to a cabinet ?!

Woo! I like what I am reading, all backhaul is over EUBA and average link speed is set to 96 kbit/s :D

I also like to see the SLA like agreement that will be in place; if customers do not reach 15/5 then they will receive their money back.

I'm also fairly close to an exchange which is VDSL2 capable; I seem to remember there being a Telstra business plan which was based on VDSL2 but can't remember anything else about it.

I would love to have VDSL2, but im a bit worried it will be out of my price range for the first year or so. This is my opinion/guess i havnt actually seen any pricing yet.
I hope im wrong though :)

Seems like backhaul within Telecom still has issues with high contention, although maybe they would target VDSL2 plans at business to avoid the spike in usage at peak times.

Time to find a new industry!

Not aware they have any contention issues with backhaul on their Ethernet based services (which VDSL2 is offered over). Different story for ATM maybe.

The map shows VDSL2 coverage running out about 50 metres before my house... yet I'm within 300 m of the cabinet according to the coordinates on Chorus' site (assuming that the cables follow the street). The cabinet isn't due to go in until next year though, so things may change by then.

According to the article, attenuation mustn't be over 10 dB. It'll be interesting to see what mine is once the cabinet finally goes in.

If your modem syncs at 20mbits and you cant get anywhere near that speed then i doubt vdsl2 will help you at all.

It annoys me when ISP's advertise ADSL2+ speeds but cant even deliver ADSL1 speeds because of their own upstream backhaul issues. (slingshot)

On my local exchange (riccarton, chch) vdsl is only supported on a small portion of the lines (1/4 of non-cabnetised lines by my estimate) according to the telecom wholesale map.

Certainly a soft launch!

I sync at 20meg so eagerly await the upgrade - five heavy users on a single connection is a drag
