Hi,

When I download I get it running at full speed for roughly 5 minutes, then it stops for a few minutes. Does this over and over. It's usually not a problems as I'm usually not in a rush for anything but there has been a couple of occasions lately where downloads have stopped and they don't restart. Is this type of behavior common? What causes it?
I'm with Vodafone (was ihug, on their 2Mb heavy plan)

What program are you downloading with? it might be worth comparing different types of download, eg web browser vs download software vs http function of torrent software. If you have software that opens too many connections, the server you download from might have some limitations too. And the way your ISP balances/manages usage could also be a factor on big downloads like that, because downloading at full tilt for 5min will affect how much speed is available to other users.

Time to find a new industry!

I too have a similar problem when I am downloading things from Megaupload using their MegaManager Download program. I have it run for 20-30 mins then my modem drops the connection and more often than not Megamanager errors the download and I have to start all over again.

I can use JDownloader but the speeds i get on this normally do not go above 400 - 500Kbps whereas on Megamanager I can get speeds 2 - 3 times faster. If i was using something like Utorrent (and Jdownloader) they normally just resume once the connection is up but not Megamanager.

This downloading is set for overnight when I have free(ish) 75gigs of data per month 2am-8am. I can if still up manually pause the download and wait for the modem to fully reset and then resume my download and all will be fine til it happens again but as you may have noticed what times i'm talking about I am sometimes asleep by 2am.

Broadbnd prvider is Xnet (Worldexchange) modem is a linksys wag54p2 (or something like that it used to be there recommended modem to hook up with Naked DSL and have VOIP runing too. I have no other issues as everything else runs fine. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate.

Any clues or suggestions??

It happens while downloading via http (Chrome and Explorer), Free Download Manager and Utorrent. It's a dedicated phone line - nothing else is using it. Download speeds are better than the 2mb/s that my plan is supposed to get. I just get this blasted pausing.
