I am sorry folks involved in a recent discussion about WorldNet Services (ISP) in New Zealand, from January 2010.

A WorldNet Services (ISP) director contacted me today and asked to have the discussion removed, saying "We came across a post that contains baseless assertions and defaming our company. Please remove the post immediately. If you have any question please contact me on [number removed]

In that discussion the user in question described (from his point of view) certain events involving WorldNet Services (ISP).

As requested by WorldNet Services (ISP) director I have now removed the post where WorldNet Services (ISP) was named.

If you are looking for a New Zealand ISP that participates here on Geekzone here is a list: 2degrees, Orcon, Slingshot, Snap Internet, Telecom, TelstraClear, Vodafone, Woosh, WorldxChange. Forgive me if I left any behind.

In these times when companies are engaging more and more in social media and other public facing activitites, it's interesting seeing companies don't try to engage the community. These are golden opportunities to participate and get things turned around.

UPDATE: To make it clear, at no moment WorldNet Services (ISP) threatened us. The email we received is basically the one quote reproduced above. The following discussion is about the merits of having a discussion removed from a historical perspective.

Kinda makes their promised VDSL service worthless if they resort to this sort of childish behavior when someone says something that they dont like.

Are they going to cut your internet off if you use it to call them a bunch of useless whatever or describe how lousy the service that you feel you get is?

The DMCA does not apply here as it's a U.S. Law.

You obviously have no experience/knowledge of New Zealand defamation laws...

Remember, Freedom of Speech (TM) is a political right, not something guaranteed in a private setting...

It exists to allow people to express their feelings towards strong forces (government for example) without fear of retaliation.

In a private environment it's a completely different thing...

In any case this is not a case of Freedom of Speech, but a test case for crap New Zealand defamation laws.

I didn't read the post but can assume it was about poor speeds? Well, they have very poor speeds. A discussion about that is legitimate. Obviously you want to keep good relations and maintain integrity of Geekzone, but I personally think it should have stayed.

To clarify my post, such allegations against WorldNet would only be justified if the issues were true (IF the topic was about speed issues it would be legitimate, since it's widely known to be true).

There was more to it I believe, statements made from a user about how how he was treated when he went to their offices to complain, one side of the story only and pretty messy if I remember righty so possibly getting into shakey ground.
