Orcon has just sent out a press release "Orcon Trialing Status Text Notification Service (STaN)"

"Orcon customers can now send a simple text message with the word ‘STATUS’ from their mobile phone to 464, and STaN will reply with a message outlining the current status of the Orcon network. This means that if people are having difficulty getting online they can instantly determine if it is a problem on the network, or something that may need additional troubleshooting."

"STaN is updated in real time between  8am to 11pm Monday to Friday and 11am to 8pm weekends, so Orcon customers can be sure that they are getting the latest system status information. Standard text message charges of 20c per message apply. "

Well done. I just hope they do update their system status, unlike Xtra, which apparently had their pages saying "All is ok" when in fact they had a nationwide outage on their hands.

Seeby rides again.

Smart bunch that Orcon crew... I visited their premises about 6 or 7 years back with a view to working there.

I hope they have their own SMS Gateway handling the requests and not a 3rd party gateway handing the shortcodes that requires an internet connection! :-)
