Just got off the phone to Woosh sales about switching to DSL when I move next month. The rep has told me of some new plans that are to launch on the 1st of November which are pretty cool.

They are as follows:

1GB Allowance
2Mbits Down
$29.95/Month

5GB Allowance
3.5Mbits Down
$39.95/Month

UNLIMITED* Allowance
Fast as your line/the network will allow
$49.95/Month

And the best news is you don't have to use them for Tolls to get the pricing! Woo Hoo!

*If you exceed 700MB traffic between 5pm-Midnight you are rate limted to 64K until midnight that night.

FINALLY we are starting to see some decent broadband offerings

Sounds very interesting...
Nice to see they only throttle you to 56kb during peak hours/untill 12am if you exceed 700mb during such peak hours...
So wont be put into any 'fair use pool' for a whole week...
Also thier peak hours are better by one extra hour, 5-12 instead of xtras 4-12...
And they dont mention anything about targeting p2p users....nice.

I was about to go with Xtra, so glad I checked Woosh again, not sure how I missed this plan when I checked earlier today!

I got to ask a few questions, as far as I can tell it should be possible to have interleaving turned off, the help desk didn't say that but it appears it is really their own plan not simply Xtra's wholesaled by Woosh. (which makes sense being the peak times are different/better)
(interleaving can't be turned off with and Xtra plans)

I also established that Woosh doesn't slow down p2p, but it does 'shape' it that is to say give realtime applications priority which doesn't sound too heinous at least the tech I talked to with his wireless experience thought that's the most they'd do.

If you don't have an internet connection they give you a modem, but as I'm transfering they will only give me one month free, with a $99 cancelation fee if I leave before 12 months, though if I opted to pay for the $45 chun fee and not get the free month there's no contract. (but then I'd be spending $95 to save $99 in the event I leave early)

Now I probably don't need to use an encrypted proxy to stop Xtra from slowing my usenet usage down so this is overall a better plan, plus I far rather being slowed to dial up speeds till midnight than being put into a fair use pool and eventually being told to F off (they say find a more suitable plan, more suitible than unlimited?) because I can live with being slowed to dialup speed if need be every day so I can actually use the 700MB rather than trying to stay clear of the 700mb limit with Xtra.

Not to mention that extra hour later primetime starts is really appreciated!
Very disappointed with Ihug's new plans, for sure Woosh's definition of off peak is far far far more generious than Ihugs!

I have just signrd up and talk about a fast tranfer about 24 hours but I have now noticed download speeds alot slower expecialy on international traffic about 300-400 Kbs sydney etc I hope this is cause of thetime of day because now I have a 1 year contract

I can't comment as my line won't do more than 3.3mbit anyway.
Still those speeds are better than the Xtra Go Large plan and i have heard ihug has been in a BW slump...

If you have a 3.3M connection your downloads should be around 3500 Kb/s I can only achieve about 1500 to akl sever on speedtest.net but sydney is around 300 to 400 at best with slingshot I was peaking neer to 4000 (maximum was 4100) So It looks like woosh may have very severe limitations on International traffic as well as some on national links I hope this is only a very temporary thing as I am now stuck for a year here and will be very unhappy if this continues.

What is the average speed a woosh user will get these days? I have all the gear including Wphone and am possibly looking at starting to use it again. I'm not that fussed with superspeeds but something over a megabit would be nice.

Just moved, speed increased from approx 70kbits/sec OPK to around 380kbps OPK,

DSL next week.

I get 200-400KB/s that's bytes not bits, but as I mentioned that's about my max anyway.
When I use more connections to usenet my speed goes up so I think mostly it's not any issue with Woosh that effects the speed I get.

Incidentally I'm not getting throttled when I go over 700MB, woosh tell me this is a Telecom fault, one I'm quite happy with ;)

Spoke to someone at woosh the other day about changing to DSL. They said they would waive DC fees because we would keep the broadband with them.

When I rang up about it again today (Had to wait until the landline got connected on Sat) they guy isnt sure if he is able to do that anymore and the guy I originally spoke to was sick.

Even the manager couldnt say if they would give us free disconnects or not. Now I have to wait until the guy I originally spoke to comes back to work so the manager can speak to him before we can even get the ball rolling to get the DSL connected.

Not impressed.

Anyone know what are new student card deals offered by Woosh? Since Woosh took over Quicksilver old plans are now replaced by new ones, and there is no mention of it on Woosh website.

The 2006 Studentcard plans have been superceded by the new plans, which are a much better deal now. Studentcard holders all got upgraded to new plans.

There will be new Woosh Studentcard deals for 2007 - keep an eye out for the Studentcard advertising etc. in the New Year.

I have just hooked up to ADSL with WOOSH after being a long time wireless user. I am getting between 1400 and 1900 kbps on the nzdsl.co.nz speed test. I logged into my ADSL Router and it reports the following;
