insane: Before changing phone socket: Sync 55/7mbps

After changing phone socket: Sync: 49 / 10 mbps

Was that 55 Mbit tweaked? What's your attenuation and error rate?

Ideally you'd want to get on 17a. Without that you can probably get to 55 Mbit again unless your error rate is already bad.

Error rates are unfortunately off the charts at the moment so I dont think I'll be seeing any 17a action for a while, perhaps not ever.
Total time = 1 days 2 hours 43 min 9 sec
-------Down---------UP
FEC   : 1412550   32573
CRC  : 51279       89
ES     : 206          57
SES   : 123          0
UAS   : 124         124
LOS   : 18           0
LOF   : 20            0

I'd like to know whether LOS means loss of signal, have had 3 resyncs that I know of in the last day, one was DLM kicking in.

Wow, yeah, that's not good - 32 CRC/min. I don't think error rates matter for 17a, just attenuation, but I think you need to get that error rate under control anyway.

I believe LOS is loss of signal seconds, not a count of LOS incidents. So 18 sounds plausible. ES and SES seem pretty low for that number of CRC errors though (mine, for example, is 896 CRC and 271 ES). I think that means you're getting isolated bursts of errors, probably due to noise. I think you've got real problems there mate.

Hey guys, I JUST got VDSL with Snap! today and have just set my fritz up to work here is what I am getting, what would you suggest I do to try for a 17a profile?

That send attenuation seems odd from what I have seen on everyone elses I have seen here?

The good news is that your connection looks good. You're on DLM-1 and the error rate looks fine so far.

The bad news is that as far as we know there is nothing you can do to get on 17a. It'll either happen or it won't and so far the main factor seems to be attenuation. I'm not sure if 8db is low enough or not.

It's wrong. Prior to the latest firmware the Fritz didn't even report it. Don't worry about it.

Ok that's good to hear, I've read most of the first post a bit of the following posts.

Do you think there's anything I could do to increase my chances of being switched to 17a by DLM?

Make sure your wiring is good. Going by your stats and spectrum I think your wiring is fine so there probably isn't much you can do, but just in case...

Ideally you want a single run from the demarc to the modem jack with no other jacks connected, or have a master filter. I guess the shorter the internal wiring the better though we're probably talking less than 30m anyway so it's unlikely to make a difference compared to the couple of hundred metres back to the cabinet.

What's your setup now? Got a master filter?

Thanks for the quick replies, my house is less than 5 years old so it's all cabled with CAT5e as you can see in the below picture.

I have since disconnected all the phone jacks and just plugged the modem to the hub via Ethernet to Ethernet. I can't really be bothered attaching an RJ-45 to the Telco line and plugging it straight into the modem as I doubt it will make a huge difference.

Keep it quiet, I'll be harassed by sbiddle :)

Honestly though the previous owners of the house put a deck around the place blocking off any possibility of getting under the house without some demolition. When I get the underfloor insulation redone shortly I'll use that opportunity to go exploring in the crawl space, and wire the lead in directly to a socket. Unless having a splitter also provided filtering?

Errors are continuing in bursts, but sync rate is slightly up now that I've made it onto DLM4 (was DLM6 since the port refresh earlier in the week).

As far as I know errors in themselves as reported by the modem are the ones which have been fixed through things like interleaving, so possibly why I'm still stuck on 8ms to cater for the high number of them.

I've seen a badly wired one of those patch panels cause a major drop for DSL. I'd personally put a RJ45 on the telco line and plug it straight in, and then wire an Fon jack out from the fritzbox to that patch panel.

Do you honestly think that's going to make a big enough difference to what stats I am currently already getting?

I don't get how you badly wire one either.

Yeah that should be good. I'd wouldn't bother with a direct line either. I've actually got my incoming lines connected to a cat 6 patch panel so it's a very similar setup. I assume your internal wiring is cat5e or perhaps cat6, either way the attenuation over those distances should be negligible.

I did my place in cat6 because it wasn't that much more but to be honest there is little point. Both cat5e and cat6 are rated for gigabit speeds and neither are rated for 10 gig speeds.
