If you're in Auckland I'd be calling coffeebaron right about now... ;-) Unless you want to try DIY it but with that mess, geez, maybe someone else can help more o.O Do you know which of these 2 incoming lines is actually active?

Im in chch....know anyone here? don't really want to have to get chorus in, and i dont want to DIY with this mess.

Well the top line is definitely on because im using it.
The bottom one, i don't actually know where that terminates so I can't test it, i would need to get under the house to be able to see.

What's that black thing on the top one? Does it look easy to open?

(If it is and you can access to the 2 incoming wires reasonably easily, then it's actually very easy to cut one end off a patch cable, connect the incoming pair to the centre 2 wires and then the other end plugs straight into the fritzbox ;-) very easy way to test at least, and it's how I've wired my incoming line permanently - seems to work pretty well)

Doesn't really matter if that's not the VDSL enabled line. Unless you want to get it switched over to that line.

If I understand you correctly that little white box splits the incoming line with one branch going to the dining room where the Fritz is and the other going to the master bedroom and then other extensions. What I would do is to open that white box and disconnect the the master bedroom branch. That should be pretty easy and it could make a huge difference.

If that doesn't improve things enough the next step would be running cat5e or cat6 from either the little white box or the black one. But you might be better to get someone in for that.

Yup, you definitely need to sort your wiring. Check post #1 for an example of what a difference sorting your internal wiring can do for you!

That good advice, if it stops raining tomorrow I'll try get into the white box.

I can't help feeling i should get my line changed to the bottom line with the newer looking ETP on it.

Yeah I'm really looking for someone to come out and give me a hand at this point. Short of that, I'll be giving snap a call I guess to get chorus out to sort the wiring.

That is a join, inside its full of this blue sticky waterproof stuff, so like a giant 3m gel splicer. Chorus tech used one on my last place I was staying as he needed to split the line outside, where a junction box would take too long to install and would not be waterproof.... I think he was just being cheap and in a hurry.

Well if its not being used then it shouldn't be doing any harm to disconnect it, however I wouldn't bother if there is no signal being carried by it. I'd concentrate on the line that goes to the fritzbox , get that as short as possible, ie get the fritz closer to where the cable enters the house, and/or have the cable replaced by something of quality like cat5e/6.

Also buy a bag of 3m gel splice things, if you break anything you can then fix it again with them and a pair if pliers.

Doh, yup, though not all that surprising with all those resyncs. I reckon if the weathers ok today you should look at disconnecting that other branch if it looks reasonably easy.

It must be the day for DLM changes because I finally got bumped back to DLM4 this morning.

(BTW, some recommendations for chch master filter installers here, though the last post isn't that encouraging: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=49&topicid=114754
