Well, since my attenuation dropped dropping from 55mbit to 50, I figured I'd try a little experiment:

Yeah, it didn't work :D  But hey, at least we know now!  Pretty sweet error rate tho eh! :D

Hey, has anyone with a 7340 tried the latest firmware?

sidefx: It must be the day for DLM changes because I finally got bumped back to DLM4 this morning.

I got a DLM change too. Back to DLM-1. Strangely, my sync is lower than it was on DLM-2: 66688 now vs 69144 before. Thought I'd try untweaked again, so Sam, if you're still tracking this, here's a new entry:

Attenuation, Distance, Sync, Profile, DLM, CRCPM, SNRM, SNRMT
SamF: 9db, 300m, 49.5mbit, 8b, 1, 0.09, 11, 0
HowickDota: 6db, 150m, 62.8mbit, 17a, 1, 0.3, 12?, 0?
JamesL: 12-13db, 400m, 34.2mbit, 8b, 1, ?, 12?, 0?
SteveH: 4db, 130m, 47968, 8b, 1, 3, 11, 0
SteveH: 5db, 130m, 44720, 8b, 1, 0.87, 11, 0
SteveH: 5db, 130m, 44720, 8b, 1, 0.52, 11, 0
SteveH: 5db, 130m, 43872, 8b, 1, 0.82, 12, +1
SteveH: 5db, 130m, 42296, 8b, 1, 0.14, 13, +2
SteveH: 5db, 130m, 49576, 8b, 1, 6, 5, 0 (weird sync with very low SNRM)
SteveH: 5db, 130m, 50608, 8b, 1, 19, 11, 0 (another weird sync though SNRM is normal)
SteveH: 6db, 130m, 58616, 17a, 1, 0.08, 14, 2
SteveH: 6db, 130m, 69144, 17a, 2, 0.03, 10, -2
HowickDota: 11db, 400m, 38.4mbit, 8b, 6, 0, 12, 0
fellaintga: 8dB, 200m, 55856, 17a, 1?, 0.02, 12, 0
SteveH: 6db, 130m, 63200, 17a, 1, 0, 12, 0

The connection has only been up about 45 minutes and I haven't had any errors yet. No doubt I'll get some eventually.

@hio77: Yeah, but I am running with a +10db SNRM... :D  That's a 1.4mbit drop per DB btw.  Errors are still ABSOLUTELY ZERO tho!! LOL

@stevehodge: Cool, let me know when you've been running for 24hrs and we'll see what the error rate is.

And lose more Downstream throughput than many people have to start with (on ADSL :P)

For me the 1ms latency is not worth the massive drop in sync rate but if you're mainly gaming it might be worth it.

Even with gaming, I can live with the 8ms profiles... A middle ground between 8 and 1 would be nice though.

Speed drop becomes not worth it pretty fast imo.
Have to remember consistency is a big thing in latency too for gamers .. jittering of 5~10 ms is very noticeable for me at least.

To many factors, 14ms lower latency is far less of an improvement vs littering about .
Now on a decent 17a link, that 14ms could be a huge improvement on TCP latency in terms or single streams..

Well finally after about three weeks or so since getting a port refresh I've made it back to DLM-2 I think. yay..... Has been stuck on DLM-4 for ages!

Only thing I've done recently was test two other VDSL modems, a Thompson 789 and a Telecom thingy for about 5 minutes a few days ago.

@insane: Do you have a comparison of sync rates etc between all the modems?

Well that just so happens to be what I was testing :)

Zyxel p-870h-51a v2 - 52/10 (DLM4)
Thompson tg789vn - 51/10 (DLM4)
Telecom Pace V5542 - 52/10 (DLM4)

Sticking with the Zyxel in full bridge mode with my Cisco E4200 router running Tomato USB.
